Default Need a Doctor!!!!!!!!

I know this is not normal, but hoping someone can tell from pics exactly what is wrong and how bad is it? My car has been sitting since mid-November. It's obviously a leak, I'm guessing oil. Is this major work? It's an 04, should be covered, but if they fix it, I have heard they usually break something else...gm horror stories.

Try tighening the small bolts that hold the valve covers to the heads. These bolts sometimes vibrate loose and oil will weep out and down the head. But if you haven't driven this car for months then it could be something else. Good luck with this repair.

Looks like either the valve cover gasket has gone bad or the valve cover itself needs to be tightened down. Should be a simple repair.

Thanks guys for advice, glad to know it's not too bad, can someone use paint to show what bolts to tighten, I am pretty dumb when it comes to cars.

Can anyone show, or describe which bolts to tighten, are they in the picture?

Remove the rail covers to expose the valve cover bolts and tweak them a bit.
Do not overtighten as this can cause it to leak all that much more.

You sure you didn't just spill some oil when you added? Because it would run down the filler neck and end up there. Or it's the valve covers. Remove your fuel rail cover, it just snaps off, and you will see about 8 bolts that hold the valve covers on. It will be obvious once you remove the plastic fuel rail cover.

Tighten your valve covers then clean up the old oil and drive it for a while and see if it returns, its better to run them periodicaly while in hibernation because of those types of problems.

It has about 2500k, hasn't had an oil change yet. That's what worries me.

Could it have been overfillled initially?

Yep......especially if its still under warranty. I agree it should be a simple fix, but if your not that comfortable in doing repairs, take it to the General....

Actually, you have to take the coil pack off as well to get to the valve cover bolts. You can see mine below which I painted red when I polished the covers. Do not overtighten! 106 in. lbs. That's 106 inch-pounds. The screws are held with aluminum threads.

With the coil packs still on.
