I disagree, pay the fine if you are unlucky enough to get one. The odds of you finding a cop bored enough to pull you over for that are not good. The odds of the cop being **** enough to not let you off without a warning are even fewer. Just show the cop you have the plate, say your on the way home from a car show, and politely ask for a break. If you still get a ticket/fine, than fight it in court!

Has nothing to do with a cop being bored or ****. It has to do with them doing their job. I find your advise to lie about coming home from a car show and then wanting to fight the ticket in court to be something a criminal would do.

It's very simple and you don't have to agree with it but, it is the law. Contact your politicians to change it and don't stoop to acting like a criminal to weasel your way out or blaming the cops.

Agree that it isn't a cop's fault; however, I don't think any one of us has the power to pressure our legislators to overturn the front plate law in the face of all the lobbyists which had it instated in the first place.

You would be surprised at what "the people" can do if we band together. Because being defiant and paying fines for noncompliance won't change anything.

Ahh yes....the old do whatever the law states, no matter how ridiculous. And the old just following orders defense for the cop who enforces it. "The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing"

Rollinred,

Not difficult to take off the front plate insert.

Two screws under the bottom edge of the plate insert. Gotta get down on the ground to see em. One directly below the "O" in CORVETTE and the other directly below the 2nd "T". Medium phillips screw driver.

I got a front plate surround from Zip that was same color as car.

Regards.

seems there should be a little descretion on the part of the cops - probably the same guy that calls for the donations

That was a little harsh.

From what I've read there is little chance to get a front plate law repealed. All the states that have toll system roads like to have the front plate. You are 50% less identifiable without it. A friend of a friend showed me a "directive" to the state patrols to enforce the front plate law. Plus, if you didn't know, you are less likely to get a verbal warning nowadays because the police have to "write" a hard copy of something since they (the police in all states) have to account for ALL stops they make because of the racial profiling stats collection. This started last year. You could get a written warning but the chances of them just letting you go are slim IMHO.

I certainly haven't to get out of a stupid ticket that I knew I was in the wrong for! I find it interesting that everyone blames someone else for their infractions.

Well, here in CA, they are using red light cameras in more and more areas, and they can only work if you have a front plate, so, it is about money... that is why common since does not count with the politicians. and running without a front plate or lying about it is no more criminal than going 1 mile over the speed limit IMHO.

When was the last time someone backed away from a crime??

We have the similar law down here (NB, Canada).

My beef with is, while it may be the law, I find it less than amusing that cops down here spend 75% of their time enforcing plate & window tint laws, while REAL criminals are left alone to do their "business".

PLUS, some cars aren't fit for the road, rusted so bad you can practically see the occupant's shoes through the body panels, yet they're free to drive, while shiny vettes gets pulled over for stupid plates.

two cents deposited
