The time has come for me to replace the tires on my '99. I have the original tires on not and am looking for some suggestions for new ones. I was looking at the Goodyear F1 GS-D3's. Seem good! I need good tread life, as these are my daily drivers. However, I would like something to give me good grab! Any thoughts.......
Also, I have the stock '99 rims. How wide a tire can I put on them???
I have them and like them - great grip in dry and wet conditions - try a search for more info - also a good idea to check out the ratings on TireRack.com.
Not only do they grab much better than the runflats, but they provide a much better ride, wear very well, weigh 26 lbs less, AND are made right here in the US of A. Whats not to like??? I give them up.

How do they weigh 26lbs less over 4 tires? That's almost 7lbs difference per tire. I'm not arguing with you, I'm just curious. I have an '88 TA and was about to pick up some wide-spoke rims with F1 EMT's off a '98 and was curious as to how heavy the rims were so I came to these boards (actually signed up a while ago looking for C4HD brakes). The EMT tires are really that heavy though?

The runflats are very heavy because of their reinforced sidewalls. I was surprised the first time I heard there was a 26 pound difference as well but its been quoted several times by different sources. That much unsprung weight savings will definitely affect handling and response. I'm seriously considering buying a set myself once the runcraps go bald but at the same time, I'm contemplating getting aftermarket CCW wheels so I'm kinda torn on what to do. I guess my piggy bank will decide.

I believe that most of the weight is in the super-stiff sidewalls. Believe me, if you pick up one and then the other, you will instantly notice the weight difference. Some people negate the difference by buying larger-size wheels and tires; I chose to stay with the same size tires and enjoy the reduced weight and superior ride characteristics. It was pretty sad when my 89 Mazda MX6 GT handled bumpy corners better than my EMT-equipped 01 C5. Fortunately, with GSD3s, my C5 is the better handler, even on less-than-perfect high-speed corners.
If you can swing the price, the Michelin PS2s have to be one of the best street tires going, love mine. If you don't want to jump that high, I suggest you take a hard look at the BFG KDW2's. That would have been my choice if I hadn't have jumped to the PS2s.

Good Luck!
I saw the KDW2 and agree that they look awesome--only thing is that I don't think that they make 'em in stock C5 sizes... (just my observation on the TireRack site...)
