I'm considering a change to an aftermarket shifter, and was curious if anyone has used the Kirban Quick Shifter, and if so, what you think of it? I've read many pros and cons about aftermarket units rattling, being hard to shift, etc. Also, I've heard that shortening the stock shifter helps considerably, without the alleged aftermarket problems. Any info (including other brand recommendations)would be greatly appreciated!
I dont know about the Kirban but I installed a B&M shifter in my 97 a few months ago and I am very happy with it so far. No rattles or noise, no adjustments to worry about, shift was reduced big time!
I have the Hurst. I was going to get the B&M but a friend of mine talked me out of it. His B&M rattled like crazy, that may have been corrected by now. I really like the Hurst. It has a short throw and a positive solid feel. Which ever you go with you will enjoy the difference from the stock shifter.
I have the KIRBAN in my 02 Z06. I enjoy the hell out of it. It is very precice, has adjustable stops and is NOT difficult to shift. My wife even enjoys it! It is a little bit noiser than stock but not much. I added some insulation around the base of the shifter and hardly notice the additional noise. It is not there all of the time either.
I like the crisp and accurate feel and it has a very nice precise in-gaugement. I use the stops to get that SNICK,, SNICK noise at each shift! I set them so that the shifter handle just touches the stop at each gate.
Here are some pictures of it and the shift **** that I used.
After reading these posts I would again recommend to you the B&M!
I do not get ANY type of noise or rattle's what so ever and did not insulate it at all.
It shifts perfectly and I re-used the stock handle because i feel that installing one of those TALL handle's is defeating the purpose of a short throw.
I had a Ripper but thought is was to stiff.....okay if you were just draggin.....
I then put in a Kirban, cut it down 1", and put on a B&M short leather ****......loved it, except just a tiny bit stiffer than I wanted (I run open track type events, no draggin..) so I called Kirban....they sent me a set of "softer" springs....not to be confused with soft.....now it is great. I can shift with a wrist pull (no arm movement)....very short....just great. I don't hear any noise at all....of course, my wife tells me I don't hear any high range sounds....so that doesn't mean much....however, she doesn't complain about any noise either, so that does have credibiltiy..
The Kirban has been in my C5 for about 4 years.....lots of street and track usage.....no issues.
