Hypertech programmer
I read on an ad for the thing that it will produce 30% more horsepower for around $350. Now if I'm at a stock 345hp, should I spend the money and try for a claimed "400+" hp or not?
I have one and haven't used it yet. Don't know if I will. It will help with thermostat changes etc. I might consider selling mine. Don't have the origional box, but I have never used it.. If interested let me know.. Jim
I don't no where you read that ad but hypertech has dynocharts showing about 12 rwhp and 18 pounds of torque on the hypertech website which is about a 4% increase on power. I have one and it gave me a noticable difference in power, all it does is advance the timing, however if you are in an area which uses RFG gasoline or lower octane gasolines you may experience detonation which can actually lower your horsepower. Also if you have any larger modifications to your engine, these programmers don't work so well. They are OK for a stock motor. The best thing about them is that you can program the fans to come on earlier and change shift points and shift firmness. I purchased mine from another member on this site for $100 and it was a good deal. For $350.00 I would much rather spend an extra $50 for a real dyno tune at a reputable speed shop. Well worth the extra $50. If your car is stock and can find a used one for $100-$125 it is worth it. Again make sure if your area has RFG or non RFG gasoline. There is also a non-RFG program on the Hypertech which only slightly increases timing, however I've still heard of detonation from members with this option. Remember, detonation causes a loss of horsepower. If you buy a used one make sure it is for the exact year model of your car and that it is reprogramed to a stock configuration. This thread should have been posted in the Scan and tune area, might get more resposes, do a search also for more info

More cyberspace HP, It has limited uses like others have said, not bad for an A4 car or to change tire sizes. When you first make the changes, you may notice a SOP difference but after 5-10 drive cycles, the PCM will take that away. But for the money there are better options.
well nothing is as simple as that ........1st you must addres the normal (high) operating temps for $15. you can get a throtle body by pass..then the modular thermostat replacement then the hypertech program starts to help. then you need to up grade the intake a lot of the detonation that you have heard about can be helped by lowering operating temps. and a "good" opctane bost..............check the mail order house of your choice ......however for the $ if you are going to make real mods later.........iduno.
The LS1 runs fine for temp.
The Throttle by pass is a in cold temps.
Running a colder thermo, makes you run rich, and In a cold climate another The thermo actually makes the car run 8 degrees colder, not much at all.
