I got the dreaded deal this weekend prepping the car for the track.

after reading the majority of this thread and emailing John (Big Thanks) here is what I discovered on my car.

I'm at least the 3rd owner and it's had the recall done. I have the relay in the passenger foot well but no K-Harness. The latch plate is gone.

I tried a variety of things, shorting wires, new relay nothing worked. I finally found that if I tap the actuater box on the steering with a hammer, fairly hard, the actuator pin retracts when the key is on. It's a temp fix and I have the CLB on it's way. But I have a track day on Wednesday and I really needed to figure out something.

at least it's working for now.

I installed it late on Tuesday and it seems to work fine although I did not bypass the relay. Tracked the car on Wednesday still no issues, no codes. So far so good.

You don't need to call the dealer, all the answers are in this post but it's gonna take a little reading.

Gotta do the CLB, pull fuses 23 and 25 (I think), and shortcut to post #1108 and #1111

Wow I just found this thread... My car broke on me at my work ytd; it is still there with the column locked It did the service column lock, and the wait 10 seconds...

I ordered a CLB, should be here tomorrow.

My question is my car is a 2000 M6, it DID have the recall done in 2004 and I found the relay in the passenger floor board and the wiring the dealer did.

What do I need to bring with me to get the car driveable, so I can do it in one shot?

Anything special since mine did have the recall?

Thanks again for all the help as usual Corvetteforums!!!

SLOW 77 - After you install the CLB I believe you need to follow post #1111. You'll need to bring wire to install a jumper on the relay in the footwell.

Thanks for all the help! Getting the wheel un-locked took a couple of tries, but other than that the bypass was easy to install. Again thanks for all the help!!!

1999 A4 here. Today I got the fuel shutoff and "pull key wait 10 seconds" message. Didn't know what the hell was going on so I called for a tow truck. After 30 mins, I thought I would try it again to see if it still was giving me problems and it worked perfectly. I was able to cancel the tow and drive back to work. The steering wheel was not locked so it must have had the recall done. From everything I have read so far, I need to install a CLB so this won't happen again.

Since you mention it, my battery ran low yesterday because I had left the fog lights on. That is probably why I had an issue today. Thanks for the info.

I have read many pages of this thread, and so far cannot find any other suggestions. After reading the previous three posts, I decided to ask for help.

I have a '98 A4. When I bought the car, everyone said to install a CLB. At that time, the column did not lock, so I knew the recall had been performed. When I installed the CLB, I found the "K harness", tie-wrapped to the steering column, as everyone says, however, it WAS NOT hooked up.....to anything. I found the female connector that matched the CLB, and installed the CLB per Corvettes of Houston instructions. As soon as I finished the install, and started the car, I got the "Pull key, wait 10 seconds" message. The instructions said, if I got that message to remove and reinstall fuses, which I did....and it cleared it....at that time. Since then, about once out of every 10 times (or less) that I start the car, I get the message, and hence the fuel shutoff. I have never gotten the Service Column Lock message.....ever. After reading this thread, here is what I've done:
Cleaned BOTH keys that I have for the car.
Replaced the battery, even though it checked as good, with a Optima Red Top.
Found and cleaned the ground connections in both footwells, and ran a dedicated ground wire to the battery from one.
So far, nothing has gotten rid of this problem. The car never fails to clear and start after pulling the key.

Any suggestions? Keep in mind, I did not have a problem in the three months that I had the car BEFORE I installed the CLB. I am thinking of removing the CLB, hooking it back up as it was, just to see if it changes.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Default Can this be fixed by pulling out fuse #25 permanently?

I read the FAQ and managed to unlock mine (99 FRC mn6) by pulling out the key, turning the steering wheel to the right with as much force as possible and then reinsert the key and turn it slowly to the second position to the right. However, I wonder whether removing fuse #25 permanently while the steering wheel is unlocked could fix the problem (provided the same fuse isn't necessary for operating the car which I have no idea about). Has anybody tried this?

the manual says "body control module - ignition 1 - instrument panel control" for fuse 25. As far as trying it out, when I get to do it, I'll let you all know.

Default Collum lock

I picked up a low mile 02 Z06 last month and the collum locked on my son at work. Had it flat bedded to the local Chevy dealer. On this forum they said that the dealerships would try and make you pay for the work. Also someone said to try GM coustomer service which I did right from the start. Well the interesting news was the dealership that said they did the recall in 05 didn't so this dealership picked up the cost(including removing the locking plate). They wouldn't cover the towing and I didn't feel like arguing over $150. During all this GM has called me twice a day to check on the status and looks like they are going to cover the towing. So thanks to the forum for good info and anyone that has the problem GM coustomer service may be the way to go. At least this time.

Basic important parts 66biskwik:
1 locking plate. Glad they took it off.
2 programming. Did they screw you with the 2mph cutoff? Or did you hopefully get them to ignore that since without a locking plate it isn't needed?

They said they reprogramed so would that be part of it? This might sound dumb but the car doesn't seem as fast as it was. I bought this from a private person maybe he had a tune job done?? It's got borlas and a Blackwing. I'm putting headers on it and then I'll get it tuned.

Well, the steering column keeps refusing to unlock about 95% of the time when I enter the ignition key. I ordered the CLB. To be able to drive the car until it arrives I do the following (After unlocking it by turning it to the right with as much force as possible while turning the ignition to the second position): Pull out fuse 25 while the ignition key is in the run position and the steering wheel is unlocked, before pulling out the key. This way the steering column doesn't lock. Next time I need to drive the car, I first turn the key to the run position and then reposition fuse #25. At least, this way I know it won't be locked permanently before the CLB arrives.

As far as installing the CLB, I'm afraid I'll need someone more qualified to do it for me. Can someone recommend an installer in the Washington DC-MD-VA area?

Starshifter, if you can find and pull fuse #25 you can install the CLB. Yes, it's just that easy.

This is NOT true, the cutoff will still invoke. You'll be able to turn the wheel but you won't get very far without disabling the system or raising the limit on the fuel cutoff. Both of these can only be done by someone with a Tech2 device.
