Default Replacing rear bushings with poly???

How hard is it?

Do the old and new bushings have to be pressed in and out?

Going to drop the whole rear assy to have a look at the torque tube. So I thought that it might be easier to do this with everythng out.

Where to buy them?

TIA!

I did not use them but I would reccomend the VBP bushings. Get them pressed out as that is by far the worst part.

I am a confirmed DIY guy and I would rather do a cam than ever do that again. I did one arm and had the other three pressed. Was cheap!

I hear you!

I'll be dropping the aft crossmember, tranny, diff and all that to have a look at the torquetube.

So I guess I can pull the arms off and have them pressed if it sucks.

Is this the kit:

http://www.vbandp.com/detail.aspx?ID=770

I guess it will cover the front too.

Yes those are the "good" ones. Mine were brand X and you had to reuse the old hardware which is a long bad story.
The lower fronts are the important ones in terms of handling improvement. The the stock soft bushings allow lots of movement and extrude out of the arm over time.

Check this thread out:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1002435

Unless you set up your car, you placed better than 2nd place at Solo2 Nationals in ASP and have more than one dealership, you'd do well to listen to Raftracr.

see5 is right, the front bushings in the lower control arms are the handling bushings. The rear bushings are the ride bushings. You can make drastic changes to either bushings without changing the characteristics provided by the other bushings.

Thanks, I guess your only as good as your last National event. Can't wait for next year to try and redeem myself. BTW cut the ends off of one side of the bushing and PRESS them out

Sorry Danny, I heard you've done very well in the past, but I only remember last year's results...I only started SCCA last year tho. Still, 2nd is DAMN GOOD!

Do you change your bushing out frequently? I keep reading out cold flow and creep with urethane bushings? I'm sure they'd last a while, but if I was going to go with stiffer bushings, I'd rather go with greasable metal bushings....just need to learn more before I try it out....

I dont change my bushings frequently, but I do try to lube them frequently. You could easliy make the VBP bushings greasable by drilling holes in control arms and installing zerk fittings, but I haven't done this yet myself. I have seen it done though. Yes, polys do make more noise on occassion, I find that the ones that require the most attention for noise are the upper rears.

If it were legal for me I would probably use metal spherical bushings myself. Maybe when I go to SM2.

I will try to grease them with a needle point for a grease gun. I should have put zerks but it's always a rush.

Let us know how that press works. I tried a big bench vice and all kinds of rams, sockets etc and gave up. Local machine shop did them for $20.
What grease do you guys use? My bushings came with and incredibly sticky lube but I used it all.

Putting the grease fittings on now would be relatively easy.

Works like a charm. Just used it to do my fronts. Use a sawzall to cut of one side of the bushing, then just press it out with the ball joint press.

Guys Grease fittings-If these bushings are pressed in, then where is the grease going to go? You would think that it will not get around the bushing. Know what I mean?

There will be an air-gap between the two bushing halves, mount zerk fittings dead center of bushing bores.
