Thats what I thought. Thing was some guys had the switch mounted on the dash or where it had to be acctivated with your left hand seemed akward to me best place seems like on the shifter. Is it a momentary switch?
It is very useful on automatics. It will lock the front brakes only and not the rear brakes, at the press of a button or the flick of a switch, allowing the rear tires to spin freely when the accelerator is depressed. This allows the rear tires to spin and the car to essentially spin in place and thus heat the rear tires that they become more sticky.
Once the tires are sufficiently heated/smoked up, the line lock switch or button is released and the car staged.
The tires now heated and sticky will give a better launch.

Just wondering... But where do you get one? I've checked most of the forum sponsors websites, and havent seen them listed anywhere. I could be blind. Also, how hard as a DIY mod?

You might try Jegs.com or Summitracing.com. Seems like I remember them carrying the Hurst unit.

Cartek sells one already plumbed and with the proper fittings, cut and bent to the correct length to fit our cars. No additional cutting or adapting needed.
It is not that difficult to install. You will have to bleed the brakes however. Give them a call.
To use a line lock, you drive through the water, leaving the rear wheels in the water. Apply the brake pedal, press the line lock button and then release the brake pedal while still holding the line lock button.
When you do this the front brake pads are still engaged but not the rears. As long as you are holding the button and pressing the gas the car will do a burnout as the front brakes are locked, the button functioning just like your brake pedal.
I have heard of launching a car by using a similar method and then brake torquing by holding the button and pressing the gas. On the third yellow the button is released and the gas pedal mashed.
Mine fits under the ashtray lid and above the cigarette lighter. When I close the lid it is hidden.

I am dating myself now,but back in the 60's line locks were very common. We mounted the switch on our Hurst Competition Plus shifters in our SS Chevelles,Olds 442's, Super Bees and..... Oh I am beginning to ramble

Here's dating...we use to adjust the brakes so your first pump was front only, and two pumps got all four. (72 Satellite 440 12.20) Other fun was frame ties for the early Mopars, and removing a leaf or two from the rear springs to get them to launch correctly.
