Since I could not find a single CARB approved LS1 cam I'm assuming that your chances of passing with EITHER are directly proportional to the ignorance level of the smog tech.......

well, there's always one in the basket of apples like this comment. Never mind that the LS7 will be passing with flying colors at 591" lift. Yes.it is true that if you dare use anything that is not pure OEM, you run the risk of technically violating the emmisions laws. And, that is true, even if you have CARB numbers in place. The law doesn't necessarily approve of multiple parts all sporting CARB numbers as those certifications were achieved against a stock Vette. The perceived safety of a CARB number really only applies to the use of one part with that certification.

I just did a pre-test with headers, hi flo cats, AFR heads, Haltech Trap, and 224/228 @ 114 cam. It failed the shiffer by 5 parts HC. I have confidence that I can tune that out. I would think a 224@114 with a decent tune should pass the sniffer. The key is to get a tech that doesnt look overly hard at things. The Koos headers after time turn gold and really dont stand out. The under car check he did see cats, The heads didnt get a second look, the CAI he didnt care about. Just my experience.
Is any body passing California smog test with a 228/228 .588/.588 or anything close to these spec??? Or is 224/224 about the limit? Thanks.
I passed smog with a stage 2 engine and stage 2 heads.Look below and you can read my mods. The secret is in the tuning.I passed the smog test last Monday, and I don't have any worries as log as Andy is alive and kicking.
220/220, .581, 114lsa.... passed sniffer with room to spare.
I would think a 228 could pass with a proper tune. As other people are saying, the tuning part is the key.
LAKE COUNTY does NOT require smog checks unless ownership changes.
People get mailboxes there to register their tricked out cars.
my uncle lives there, and hes never smogged any of his cars. I also checked with dmv and lake county does not have to report to any smog. so with the g5x3 cam I'm gettin installed this tuesday it will work out fine.
