Call me picky, call me ****, but i need to get rid of this problem because i want to have to car in perfect condition. The A/C on my 98 climate control unit seems to have a problem where the control unit or something does not listen to me. When i turn on the A/C no matter what button i press it goes through out all the panel openings and not the just the ones for the from or just the under dash ones or window defrost, but all of them. It doesnt blow it out as powerful as it used to either no matter how high i put it. The passenger side control never worked anyway. You guys think it might just be the unit
Good luck on this one, Picky. I have the near about same problem on my '01 that has been induced from external performance tunning of the car. In addition the "fresh air" is always on/open and no matter which button is depressed on the A/C system.
I think that the only way to fix the problem is to reflash the factory computer program, then retune the engine for the mods. Problem is the car will NOT start and run with out the tunning mods in the program???

i just had my '00 a4 coupe dyno tuned (monday 2/21/05), and have noticed that the auto climate control does not want to turn OFF all the time...i have had a problem with the unit for some time-the display has gone out, but i have not had the problem turning the unit off until this week...have you had yours flashed/re-tuned, yet? please advise how this turns out...
Manifold vacuum operates the dampers and doors. if you do not have manifold vacuum the doors will stay in one position and the air will blow out of one set of vents. The vacuum comes fron this fitting on the back of the manifold. It is very difficult to access and repair if it is disconnected.
Make sure you have vacuum to control the doors and dampers.
Definately not your unit. Your unit sounds like it is working. If you can get you unit to blow hot and cold air then the unit is fine. Bill above me knows alot more than I do, but it may be your fan control module which is located under the passenger side footwell by the fuse box. I have a working used one i can lend you if you want to try a quick plug-in to see if that is your problem. Pm if interested. Good luck!
