Default lights down

i installed the t84 lights last night well first off this should be the first mod anyone does to there car
the difference is incredible but i have a problem the only way the lights go down is if the high beams or on
i made my high wattage harness so i dont have a clue to what causes it to do so

the lights dont go down in low beams only high beams
whats the deal is it something to do with the relays and how do i fix it
please help
thanks in advance

Contact Brian at PFYC, they have a module that will correct the problem. I have one on the way for my lights also. Should be here Monday or Tuesday. The T84's sure make a difference.

Default ???

i wouldnt spend the money to buy a harness when i could build it myself so a module is probably out of the question when it is more than likely a diode installed inline of both relays
but if anyone can tell me how to fix it without buying some overpriced resistor or whatever please go right ahead
like the post says i want to know what causes it and how to fix it
it cant be too complex it works with the highs but not the lows the difference betwwen the low beam and high beam voltage is 10 watts (90 vs 100)
so any help thanks

I remember back when this bothered me. You get used to flipping to high beams and turning lights off in one motion pretty fast. Honestly, don't worry about it.

I guess you like the euro lights better than the HiR's eh? I like my euro's too, but don't want to deal with the ****'s back in Cali, so my high wattage bulbs are coming out. You don't want to trade some HiR's for a harness do you? lol I'll try checking mine out later today to see if I can see anything special about them.

Default figured out

actually i figured it out (i think)
the cars headlights are designed to stay up when you blow a bulb on the low beam
the driver side light is unplugged (open circuit) aka blown bulb thats what the car thinks so the lights stay up
so if i connect the low beam connector to the relay like the passenger side one it should work or connect the bulb and secure it under the bumper somewhere
or use a resistor of some sort to fool the light socket (not sure what kind but i was told the pfyc harness uses resistors from one of there techs)
so ive got to do something to imitate a driver side light connection
im thinking that tying into the relay from the driver side will work and be easiest as well as the safest method
i will try this tomorrow and report the results

I was just getting ready to reply and noticed your solution. You are absolutely correct...in my T84 install I have relays on all four bulb connections...I used the relays to switch power via the heavier wiring I ran for my over wattage bulbs. Good luck...These are the headlights the C5 should have come with!!!

Default nope

tried tying into the relay with the low beam connector on the driver side and it didnt work
so now what
i tried the factory bulb and it worked but theres no way to secure it and it broke after a few miles of driving
so how do i make the connector think its got a bulb without one
i heard of using resistors but dont know what ones to use and i know if they are to small they get real hot and i dont want to take a guess at it

thanks in advance

On my installation I have a relay attached to each original bulb connection. The connnection on the relay is the coil of the relay, not the switching contacts. So when the low beams are on they energize the relay which then connects power to the bulbs via heavier wiring.

The point is that the relay (coil connections) offer a load for the original light circuit.....

Maybe this write up will help
www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/relays/relays.html

Good luck...email me if I can help

I'm not positive if the bulb out circuit looks at both high and low beam or just low? I also thought this was only on some 2002 and up cars? I just noticed you have a 2001.

Look at the before and after diagrams on the link I provided....that is how mine is now wired and I have no problems The one difference from the diagram to mine is that I originally only had relays on the passenger side and ran both new low beams from the one relay and high beams from one relay. That gave me the problem you have now. I then split the left and right sides and installed relays on both passenger and driver side (total 4 relays) and use each side's relay for that side's respective high and low beams.

I hope that makes sense???? Do you have a wiring diagram of yours?
