Default Cut Outs

Can you place them before the cats? If so, will this be too loud? What are the hp gains with cutouts, when they are on?

I hear that you need some back pressure so that is why they must be behind the cats. TTT means "To The Top"

if you put them before the cats you may run into a problem triggering the O2 sensors, but it would make sense because you'd bypass a decent amount of restriction.

Yes it will be very loud.

plus, unless you know someone who welds or you do yourself, you might find it difficult to find a muffler shop who will mount them before the cats. I tried on my camaro and he said no...big time fines if they get caught. Hope this helps

Default cutouts

The only place they will fit on a C5 m6 is rite at the trans before cat backs. On my A4 the only place I found clearence is just after the cat back connection with the x pipe.

Bigger question is will the affect the warranty and pass emissions?
Are they even legal in Ontario??? But why would even want them cause I hear most leak, and you want a nice carbon monoxide leak in the car right?
Not for me thanks!

I was really hoping to set up mine like this so I could go from having open headers to quiet emision friendly exhaust, there's just not enough room for two cut-outs and electric motors. I ended up getting the Off Road QTEC X pipe which is very nicely made and great fun! I get a little exhaust smell in the car at times when sitting at red lights but people at work say they can't smell it on me. The cut-outs leak a little bit also but it's at the back of the car and you can't hear it. I think it gives me a little stronger top end and robs some low end power both of which should improve after I get it tuned.

I mounted mine behind the diff., right at the bend to the mufflers. They don't add any power and I don't think they leak at all.

Don't know what your problem is Boner , but your opinion is no longer needed here . And quit ragg'in on Scarblackistan Oh, almost forgot, my igloo was red and white, but some of it melted off today, so now it's kinda pinkish, I need to fix that!

your best bet may be to call QTP on the left side of this page under Corvette Store they should know.
Some of the club members have them , they sound great. I have heard mixed reviews some say they do not last othes say they do. good luck.

You can put them before the cats no problem. There are many people who do.

However, on C5s, it is fairly impossible. There just isn't any room.

You could remove the cats, and put the cutouts in their place easily. That's one option.

You could also put cutouts before the cats, and replace the factory cats with tiny high flow cats (which are barely bigger than the exhaust pipe they are attached to) and place them a little further back in the exhaust to make them fit.

Just some thoughts.

It will be extremely, extremely loud like that, FYI. I ran my car without the x-pipe one time for kicks, but with the cats still attached. It was loud enough that it felt like my brain was being compressed. I can't even imagine bypassing the cats. It would be absolutely deafening.

Most streetable choice is back before it goes over the axle (or just after the axle). There's enough room, that's where I have mine. Still very loud but not so obscene.
