Default 4.10 or 3.90?

Need some help in deciding which to go with. My 01 mn6 coupe has all the usual bolt ons and G5X3 cam, she's putting out 416 rwhp and 376 rwt. Which ever I decide with it will be a DTE diff with their brace. Thanks

Don't waste your time with the 3.90's...go with the 4.10's. I know robz, who posts quite oftenon the forum, had the 3.90's and then went to 4.10's. Based on his experience (as well as the advice from my tuning shop, ECS) I went with the 4.10's and haven't regretted my decision. I also have the DTE strut brace, and it seems to be doing okay (only have about 20 passes so far).

I'm in the same boat as busavette. I am about to pull the trigger on a rear end and cant decide between the 3.90's and 4.10s (maybe even 3.73's).

I also have an mn6 car but but its my daily driver all summer, just to and from work each day its a 50 mile round trip. Lots of stoplights and lots of traffic.

Hey Cajun,

Do have the number for Texas Auto Gear? I know you gave it to me before but I can't seem to find it. I need someone reputible(spelling?) to install the diff in the Houston area. BTW, hows things going with your diff work? noise or anything?

Yep, 281-448-4371. I think they charge $450.00 for the R/R. If you want to save money I'll do it for $350.00. I need some more mod money! Fairly easy job but very time consuming. Since I don't have a lift I could have it done possibly on a Saturday but no longer than Sunday. I can pretty much bet that they will have your car for 2-3 days. It took them 7 to just build my diff for me. There were some personal reasons but it still took that long. Excellent work though! and very nice people!

I have 4.10s in a MN6 daily driver. I like it, even though I think it's a tad too low. If I were to do it again, I'd go with the 3.73s or the 3.90s.

Does your DD go too the track much? He's planning on adding a DTE strut brace, and given that the car has the G5X3 cam, my bet is that he'll be at the track quite a bit. With that said, he'll be kicking himself if he goes with the 3.90's those times he's racing and wishing he had the 4.10's.

4.10s.and I love 'em.
Shame they don't make a strong set of 4.30s.....but then I'd want a 7500 RPM forged bottom end...... LS7???

Same here, only 100 mile round trip everyday, all year long. Stop and go and freeway. 4.10's are the way to go. The car is sooo much easier to drive than with the 3.42's. It's a shame G.M. could not build them like that. If you do the 3.90's, you will see how well the car reacts to them, then you will wish you did the 4.10's. JMO of course.

BTW, I still get 26-27mpg (dic)on the freeway @ 80 mph, 25.5 mixed.

DTE 4.10 here with no regrets, it makes 6th gear on the highway at normal speeds usable. The negative? You'll need bigger tires if you want to take advantage of the new gearing at slow speeds in first or second gear, nothing but smoke with the runflats!

4.10 @ 80 mph = a hair under 2,100 rpm.
