Default newbie, i need help

whats up fellas, i just sold my 96 ws6 trans am (heads/cc306 cam/longtubes/gears) and im looking for a c5. my first question is what exhaust (longtubes/catted x/and mufflers) will be tollerable for a convertable? i want to do heads/cam but i want to be able to hear my radio when im going down the road. also what shoul di expect to pay for a 97-98 6 speed convertable with less than 70k on it in good condition? another question i had was whats the biggest tire i can fit underneath a c5 vert? i was looking at the black z06 wheels and i believe they are 18x10.5 in the rear. thanks in advance~gunter

Gunter,
First off Welcome.
Next, your question covers alot of ground and you will get many opinions, here's mine having asked alot of what you are asking.
Exhaust, go to a Vette show, or local show of some kind and listen to them in person, your idea of too load and mine are completely different. Also, start by listening here

http://dodds.cc/chad/garage/z28/ls1_sounds/
http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=2.36.6602
http://www.thx2.net/exhaust.htm

That should get you started with that.
As far as hearing your sterio put in all new speakers, head unit and amps if you want to get a load exhaust, thats not meant to be cross but I bought a Vette because of the exhaust sound. Again, you will get many different opinions on this. There are several forum members that have sweet systems in their Vette's.
Tire size. Again room for many opinions. I have decided on 305/35-18 in the rear and 275/40-17 in the front. Some members have gone bigger and some have different size rims than stock, many different ways to go, it is preference. Cost will play a factor also. Check this out, they are tire size calc's used to compare stock to what you are changing to.

http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

What you should pay for a Vert 97-98, dunno. Look at the online used car guides and go from there, that is where I would start.

I think that is enough to get ya started and like I said, where these questions are concerned you will get many opinions, read as much as you can and make your own decision.

Darion

Oh ya, try doing a search for a topic on the forums search engine, may find good info there.

Welcome Gunter!

I have the Corsa cat-backs which have the resonance cancelling in them. They are almost quieter than stock when cruising.

As for the radio...I agree with the other post...replace either the whole system, or the amps and speakers. My coupe radio is almost non-existant when the top comes off.

Welcome aboard sailor.. If you want a very fast quiet car you can't go wrong with TT's, or for a little less cash you can go with AFR 205's and a decent cam along with LG headers + Z06 catback.

i am running LG long tubes with Z06 mufflers.
at cruise speeds all is good, still quiet.
nice sound when your foot is in it. should be no problem
in a vert. and it sounds much better than stock muff.

1. I would recomennd long tubes, x-pipe, and a corsa or Z06 catback.
2. 97 is coupe only around 15-19, 98 convertable 19-22, 98 coupe 16-20. Will depend largely on condition and miles, very low milage cars can bring in more than my estimates.
3. front 18x10.5, 285s on tire, rear 18x12 and a 335 rear.

My m6 vert has LT's, high flow cats, H/C, 4.10 and GHL Bullets. Sweet music and I can hear the radio fine. It can get loud when you stomp it, really wakes up after 3,600 rpm. The only time I'm above 3,600 rpm.... I could care less about the radio.

i guess i could have used a better choice of words, i could care less about the sterio i just dont want to have to scream at the person next to me. i had hooker longtubes/3"offroad ypipe and borla on my ws6 and even with the windows up it was bad. i just want to avoid that. i want to be able to take out my girl and be able to have a conversation with her.~gunter

Many of the performance exhaust systems have resonance cancelling technology built right in and a lot of guys go with Z06 exhaust which won't bother you as well!

Sounds perfectly healthy to me. What were the specs on that cam?
