The two bolts that hold the brake caliper to the steering knuckle, when putting them back it says to use Locktite. Is any color fine or is there a specific one to use?
I use blue... it doesnt become like cement, like the red, the red is what is used on the bracket bolts from the factory.. the blue is a semi hardened anti vibration thread compound.
Use Blue Locktite #242. Medium strength, from aprox 1/4" to 1/2".Under 1/4" 6-32, 8-32,10-32 etc use Pink Locktite #222. Be sure all parts are clean and oil free that's very important. On critical fasteners use a Locktite primer first.
It is very important to get all the old lok-tite off of the bolt prior to installation. Use a wire wheel on a grinder or something that will get to the bottom of the threads. Also get the correct size tap and chase the inside threads if you can. Clean surfaces are a must for the product to work properly.
For the caliper brackets, I use red high strength (not permanent). At the temperatures those calipers can reach (especially if you track the car), blue will be useless.
As CHJ stated, clean the bolts up well before applying new loctite.
thanks for the replies guys, but i couldnt even get the old bolts off. i can't even fit my damn torque wrench over there. i think i might just take it to a brake shop. even if i do take out the bolts, i can't be sure that i will torqe them properly, and i don't want my caliper coming off at 100mph+
