Default LS2 vs LS6 intake results

Just got my April issue of Hot Rod magazine and what do you know they (Katech) are testing an LS2. Here is a quote:

There's been a lot of speculation on the internet that swapping the LS2's intake manifold with its large 90mm throttle-body might be a hot-ticket setup for older LS1s. Testing that theory, we back-to-back tested the LS2 manifold to an '04 LS6 manifold with its smaller 76mm throttle-body, which is also Drive by Wire. The result: the LS6 design outdistanced the newer LS2 by 8 hp and a huge 16lb-ft of torque. All the LS1 guys out there scrambling to buy the LS2 intakes from the dealers might want to reconsider, but if you have a new Corvette, maybe you can trade your intake to someone with an LS6 manifold before he reads this.

Let the debate begain!

I ask the Doctor the other day and he said to big for 346 CI engine so I guess this proves it. Good I'll save money. GM is fairly smart

Yep, old news for the forums, but pretty good for a car rag. Hot Rod is a decent mag that as far as I can tell, always has solid info. If some of our Corvette mags ran the same test, they'd probably say [insert a brand] intake is so good it creates a cooler and positive (pressure) intake manifold pressure, for a grand total of 90 rwhp on a stock C5! lol I still can't get over that brake test in a Corvette mag that defied the laws of physics!

Rick, BLACKTOP2000 and I almost went with an LS2 manifold with an LS2 TB. We saw a guy on another forum stick this on his h/c 346 and he had a before dyno, then after. He lost a few more ponies than you did so Steve decided on the LSX 90mm manifold. He went with an LS2 TB though. It looks really nice. We have a dyno with the LS6 and non-ported 75mm tb along with an AFR h/c setup. The only thing we changed was to put the intake and tb on and we have been tuning it as the weather permits in NJ. Hopefully we can get it set up in the next couple of weeks an get some numbers. The TB is pretty inexpensive and idles, and drives like stock.

I've been thinking about ALL the intake/TB combos out there (LS2, FAST) but more I read about it the more I like the LS6 intake. Cheap, tunability and plentiful comes to mind. FAST would be the way to go if you're looking for the last few HP but I'll stick with the LS6 intake.

Has nothing to do with being too big. It just sucks, period. I have a 427 in my C6. I swapped the LS2 for a FAST with the same TB. It gained 22RWHP. Even on a big motor, the LS2 manifold is a bad choice.

I would agree that the LS2 TB and manifold are a waste of money for stock cars.. There is, however, a gain is to be had for larger CI cars, big H/C, and FI..

What about FI setups? Also what specifically makes it suck?

That is nice, but why. Runner design..... penlum volume...... If the LS2 intake is that bad, why in the world would the corvette design team use it rather than the LS6?

I agree. The LS2 intake/90mm combo must work well with the LS2/6.0L set up but not with anything else. Put it on 346....too small, put it on 427......too big, put it on 363......perfect. This little piggy...........

Sometimes newer and bigger is - newer and bigger. Not better.
