Default Climate control stays at 32 Degrees

Searched threads and cannot find any answer to this question. My Climate Control consistanty registers 26 to 32 degrees on the display. Having trouble finding out where the sensor is that relates to this. Right now the A/C will not come on because the temp is registering below the 60 degree setting on the display. Thanx in advance for any help.

You may just need the sensor or the connector and sensor if there has been corrosion:
The part numbers are:
Ambient air temp sensor 10248414 connector for mounting sensor 12102747

Here is replacement information:

There is an outside ambiant air temp sensor on the radiator shroud (passengers side) near the bottom. It is very easy to change and is very inexpensive.

Change that out before you get too deep in expensive parts.

Thanks Richin Chicago but I could not get the link to work. Thanks also Bill. So, the display reads outside ambient temp. ? not inside cabin temp. ?

I dont understand is the inside or outside temp wrong. If it is the inside temp that is screwed up, the sensor is behind the little vent looking thing next to the ignition switch. That is even easier to change!!

It may be both? the temp. stays at around 32 deg. when the engine is started. If you adjust the temp. to 60 deg. it will revert back to 32 deg. or right around there on the digital readout. I can get the heat to come on. but the compressor will cycle and cut off. I think becouse the readout is staying at about 32 deg. So I am not sure what the digital temp readout is suppose to show outside or inside temp. or both? I am still waiting on the owners manual. I did not get one when I bought the car.

The "steady state" temperature displayed on the HVAC digital display is the outside temperature. The inside temp is not displayed. The digital display will reveal the inside "set point" momentarily but only if you're changing the set point -- i.e. you are turning the ****. After you adjust the "set point" the display will revert to a display of outside temp. At least that's how mine works -------

If the outside temp is around 32 -- everything is probably OK -- so how cold is it outside?

Double check the connector. Corrosion seems to be as common as actual sensor failure.

I agree with the corrosion issue. I had to replace the sensor connector as well as the sensor. Why GM would not have a water-tight connector in such an exposed location I can't fathom.

I tried cleaning the connector and that did not help it actually now reads 19 deg. and outside its 54 deg. have to buy another sensor. Is this a Factory part only or will parts stores carry this? would this sensor keep the A/C compressor form turning on ?

It will keep the compressor from coming on.

The part numbers I gave you are GM part numbers. Most dealers have the sensor in stock. I don't know about other parts places.

got the sensor, installed it, still no luck. now it reads 6 deg. in the cabin. Checked the voltage on the connector plug and it reads approx. 12/ 13 vdc. Could this be the connector not getting a good connection? I was hoping to avoid the connector as it costs $33.00 verses the $16.00 for the sensor. I cleaned the connector with contact cleaner. Any thoughts will help.

I'm sorry but I don't know what to tell you. I had to replace a connector but mine read correctly after that.

One thought, are you sure you aren't set on metric? That would be about 44 deg farenheit.

Connector at a AC Delco parts house is # PT374, GM# 12102747. Cheaper there than at Chev dealer.
