Check engine light came on and received this code on my 97 with 30K miles, (PCM Code: P 0410 HC) on a manual check. Has anyone had this before and how do you correct the problem? I would love to know before I have to let them mess with it at the shop. Any responses will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
T.J.
There are TONs of post on this topic! Your AIR Check valves are more than likley sticking shut. I recommend replacing them. You can try cleaning them but you may need new ones. Here is what they look like.
The AIR Pump only runs for a short time during startup and the O2 sensors detect the change in the Air Fuel ratio. If the valves stick shut the O2 reading does nit change for one bank or both!
There is one behind the intake manifold that takes a bit of work to change but it can be done without removing the manifold!

Does anyone have photos of where both of them are and the part numbers ?? I am having the same issues!!! Thanks!!
Before u do anything, check the battery to see if u have a leak from the positive terminal...the acid can run down around the battery box and eat thru your vacuum line and cause the P0410. I have this problem on my 2000 coupe. The check valve behind the intake is a PITA to change, see if someone will give u more info on how to do it w/o removing the intake. Check the hose on your air filter that comes out on the drivers side for any crimping or looseness. Be sure your gas cap is on tight, three clicks.

Where does the vacuum line run? Directly under the battery or is it in the lower front fender? Thanks -Steve
...take a look at my question and the great response on this thread:
"Leaking Battery And Vacuum Line". I will be troubleshooting mine this weekend, apparently the lines in question are hidden within the black wire wrap(conduit), along with some electrical wiring, if u don't have a noticable acid leak from the battery then this might not be your problem.
The one that routes to the air pump control valve on the 2000 routes in front of the battery tray, resting on the inner fender wheel well.It is incased inside black conduit along with a purple and pink wire.Open the conduit to find the break in the line. There are also 2 lines wrapped in conduit under the battery tray. One is the vacuum source from the intake manifold, the other being the source to the A/C controls inside the cabin (goes through firewall behind battery tray). Both of those are routed along with the thick main engine harnesses but break out of the harness conduit under the tray.Unfortunatly, usually they break off flush with the exit from the conduit making it difficult to find the source. A break in any of these 3 lines will cause a loss of vacuum to the air pump. All 3 of these lines go to a vacuum T that branches off the vacuum canister located between the door jam and right front fender,
Good Luck!
