Default Instrument Cluster Question

I'm having some electrical problems with the instrument cluster in my C5. I think it would be easier and cheaper to find a used one and send it out to get the proper mileage programmed. Could someone fill me in on 1. The best place to find a used cluster? 2. Where to send the cluster to get re-programmed? 3. What do I need to send? I've heard I just need a notorized letter with the current mileage, or do I just send the old cluster with the new?

Any information on this process in general would be great i.e. how hard it is it to replace and could I do it myself?

Thanks,

Why do you think that you need a new cluster?? Please describe what kind of problems you are having.

The problem has been random characters coming up on the dispay.... there are no problems for a while and then all of a sudden, the display is un-readable. I brought it to my mechanic, but they said don't bother taking it to Chevrolet, they just send the clusters out for work, they don't do it themselves. They told me that I should look into I believe they said an A.C. Delco service center???

I have actually found a cluster today at the junk yard by my house, but it has only 900 miles on it... my car has 2400.

If your not going to send it out or do anything with it. I will be willing to take it a part and see if I can fine a bad connection or cold solder joint. When it acts up, if you bang on the dash, steering wheel or cluster does it change the indications. If it does, theres a very good chance that there is a bad connection.

I haven't tried banging on it... didn't want to make it worse. I will try it the next time it acts up. It doesn't do it all the time, only now and then. Seem to happen when its cold and first started.

that sounds like a good indication that it may be a bad solder joint or bad connection somewhere.

I have several gauge clusters in stock and can program them to match your mileage. With the mileage programmed, I can do the following pricing:
HUD $299 shipped
Non-HUD $249 shipped
300mph Z06 HUD (in case you wanted to upgrade the look) $599 shipped
