I heard a not of people talking about checking the codes and then clearing them. How do you do this on a '99?

Look here to see instructions on retrieving the codes:
https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...D=25&TopicID=1

But, before you erase them you might want to find out what the codes are. Here is a list of most PCM DTC codes for a 99 vette

BTW, if you happen to get recurring codes in "RFA" such as U1016H, U1064H and U1096H, don't worry about them. These are sporadic minor communication codes that a lot of folks get (including me) and are of no consequence. Unless you get these codes with a "C" at the end (meaning "current") or you are having some kind of problem, ignore them. You can reset them but they will eventually just come back. HTH

The u codes are loss of communications codes. There are a couple of reasions that you could be throwing these codes. If your battery is weak or low on charge, when you crank your car, the battery voltage momnentarily drops low and some of the modules drop off line and set the loss of comms or NO COMMS code.

The ground wire for the RFA is connected to chassis ground G-104. It is next to the battery on the frame rail. For some reasonit gets very corroded and causes FOB and TPM issues by effecting RFA operation.

Here is a picture of the ground.

The plastic tab for the battery sorround is normaly over top of the ground lug. I removed it to point out the ground lug.

Clean that ground and see if that fixes your problem.
