I just went to put the charger on the battery from my 04 vette and it looks like the cheap thing is leaking. My question is what model red top and who has the best price?
thanks
If it's stil under warranty (should be) get a RedTop and have the General reimberse you for it...its a weekend so you can't get it from the dealer and you have to replace it! That is what I did and there was no problem getting them to reimberse for it! You have to pay up front and the dealer will submit for the reimbersement and send you a check when received (2-3 weeks). As far as price I don't know who would be cheapest but I know Sears and most auto stores carry them.
Red top, Yellow top are the questions with that line of battery and it starts at 120.00 at auto store, maybe 99.00 at Costco, but Exide has a gel cell battery also at 99.00 and it looks ID in construction to OPT and has a higher CCA rating. Sam's Wholesale is where I saw this item at 99.00 and I will upgrade to this battery from a Freedom Professional-Delco(what this is I do not know.)
I'm curious about this leak, the battery that comes in the Corvettes now is a non spillable glass mat material so I think a leak is very unlikely, I won't say impossible but do you have a pic of the leak.
Just paid $129.00 at Sears for a 34/78 Optima redtop. If you can get there tonight, they have 10% off everything on Saturday. Make sure they give you the Optima puck that replaces the GM one. It forms around the battery, holding it in place.

If you are where you can, jack her up, remove the right front wheel and then the close-out panel on the backside of the wheelwell. This will give you access to underneath the battery tray (which should be removed and cleaned also). Determine if any acid has leaked down onto either the PCM/TAC or any of the wiring cables or hoses (small nylon vacuum lines). If so, mix up a bowl full of water with a good amount of baking soda and pour the solution all over the place in there trying to get it on as much of the above-mentioned parts as possible. When finished, flush generously with lots of water but don't use a garden hose unless you keep the pressure low. Don't worry about moisture as everthing in there is very well weatherproofed. Button her back up and install the battery of your choice. I've had an Optima red top (34/78) for a couple of years now and it does a great job for me.
BTW, I performed the above procedure on mine a few years ago as soon as I found the battery was leaking. Fortunately I caught it early enough and after the flushing and new battery, no problems of any kind.

Starting in like '04, I think, they reverted back to the sealed acid (leaky) batteries again...the AGMs weren't reliable! When mine went bad, and I replaced with an Optima, they (dealer) wanted to give me one of these as a warranty replacement. I told them no way would I put a possible leaker in my Vette. Then I asked if they could just pay for the Optima and they said no problem...I think they would have paid for the Optima and given me a new Delco if I wanted....but I have no use for a sealed acid battery especially in the Vette, and it wouldn't fit my daily driver, so I told them to kept it.

Thanks I didn't know that, it sounds stupid to replace a battery thats unreliable with one that can potentially cause thousands of dollars damage to a car ...and has been proven bad in the past!!!

Excellent Advice!!! The water and Baking Soda Mixture neutralizes acid.

are there any special procedures for charging these non-spillable batteries, you don't open the top right

In 2004, GM went back to top post batteries. Where is yours leaking?
I don't ever remember having a battery leak except around the terminals on a side post battery.
