Which DIC codes are bad and need attention
I wrote down the following codes, but without thinking, erased them all before finding which one was responsible for the Check Engine light. Some are self explanatory, but a few I am not sure of. If anyone can provide some clarity, I'd much appreciate it. I don't mind an annoying light, but am worried about any serious damage. I am guessing that it is the P0420 code that is causing the check engine light.
PCM:P0420 HC - Catalyst System Low Efficiency Bank 1
TCS:C1291 H - Open Brake Lamp Sw Contacts During Deccel
TCS:C1292 H - Can't find info on this one ???
IPC : U1040 H - Loss of Communications with TCS
IPC : U1056 H - Loss of Communications with RTD
IPC : U1064 H - Loss of Communications with BCM
IPC : U1160 H - Loss of Communications with LDCM
IPC : U1176 H - Loss of Communications with RFA
Thanks,
greg

The U codes indicate that your dropping battery voltage below 9.0 volts when your starting the engine. As soon as the starter kicks in it pulls lots of amps out of the battery and the voltage drops low. As the starter starts to spin it draws less current and battery voltage comes back up to above 9 volts and the modules work again. How old is your battery and what condition is it in? If your car sits for a long period of time and is low on charge, the same thing can happen.
TCS:C1292 is Low Brake Pressure During Deceleration.
I recommend charging up the battery, clearing all of the codes and see which ones return. You may want to have your battery tested to see if it has enough reserve capacity to prevent it from dropping low during starting.

PCM:P0420 HC - Catalyst System Low Efficiency Bank 1

P0420 TWC System Low Efficiency Bank1. Looking at the service manual it basicaly points to the catalytic converter not oxidzing hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and NOx. ( My 96 tahoe has the same code and it turns on the service engine light.) After you reset see if it comes back, if so you may have a bad cat. The manual also suggest you inspect exhaust system for leaks or damage and make sure the ox sensors wiring is not damaged.
This would make sense because: I just had headers and RT cats installed. Sofar, it has not come on again.
