what other rear diff oil can be used rather than the overpriced 14.99 a qt gm. thanks
Redline or royal purple. They already have the posi additive in them (although Redline sells another type without it bue I thought you would need to special order it). Both are <$9 a quart.
$14.99? I actually paid for two quarts and they were ~$30 each! I thought the expense was for the other parts I was getting and when I saw what I paid I took those puppies right back to Mr. Goodwrench.
Oh it's already been broughten!. We'll see how fast you are on street tires.
If I do come I'll probably bring my buddy who recently got an '04 LeMans Z06 (Z16) and maybe my other buddy w/ and '03 Cobra.
I'm not looking for a race, as that would be illegal. I know there will be some heads/cam and probably blower cars, just want to see some laughing gas setup as well.
Now why is this? Adding more will reduce the effectiveness of the clutches. Do if they are using a different clutch pack, then more additive may not be desireable in a stock setup. Too much will reduce and can eliminate the limited slip ability of the differential.
Best approach for a stock car, if using aftermarket, is to put in the oil and then more additive if necessary after a figure 8 test. This is assuming that the oil used already has it in it (Amsoil, Redline 75W-90).
(off topic) Son of a... Just remembered I will be in Las Vegas during the Crawfish Boil/Vette meet. We'll have to hook up another time.
(on topic) I'm curious regarding DTE's reasoning on the additional additive as well. I didn't think they offered different clutch packs in their diff's, just the HD belleville washers that put more pressure on the slutch packs. Perhaps this is the reason. I'd like to know exactly what it is that drives this.
In any case I would not think it would be advisable to use additional additive in an OEM diff. Vettenuts approach works although I'm not sure what to look for during the test. Chattering of the diff?
