Default Active Handling and Tires

I am shopping new tires and I know that the front must be smaller than the rear, but does anyone know the actual variance? I am considering the following sizes:

245/45/17 at 25.7 inches tall for the front.
285/35/18 at 25.9 inches tall for the rear.

Since this is only .2 difference, I'm afraid it will upset the AH and ABS, especailly as I like to vaporize the rears on occasion. I think I may go to 255/40/17 in the front which is 25.1 for a .8 difference which is close to stock. Any thoughts would be apprecaited. Thanx in advance. Jeff

It isn't just the difference front to rear that matters. It's the actual overall diameter.

Most systems will allow a +/-3% difference in that overall diameter with no or minor problems.

The farther you get out from the stock diameter the more issues you will have with the TC and AH.

Even if you keep the same ratio front to rear you will still have problem if the O.D. are off.

This subject has been discussed before so I'll just direct you to that post:

What search function?

I had the thread in my subscription folder as finding later may be difficult.

Thanx for the replies, I'm either going with Falkens in stock sizes, Kumho's or Toyo S1s in slightly larger sizes. Jeff
