Default '98 A4 shift vibration?

While driving over the last few weeks, I have noticed a vibration that I feel in the seat when the transmission is shifting and is loaded at about 50%-60% throttle. As it is leaving one gear and the clutches are locking in to the next gear, there is a slight vibration. When we bought the car, the transmission had been worked on at a GM Dealer, and from Oct 2004, the repair invoice states that it has a 36mo, 50K warranty. But that was to the original owner. I need to check on that. The reason that the transmission had to be fixed in the first place was that it had no reverse and no 1st gear.

From the invoice: Verified the concern, found that there is no R, there is no low. Sunshell is broken. Found that the fluid is burnt and need to replace all clutches. Found metal, need to replace the valve body and tourque converter. Metal from the sunshell has gone thru the system.

Anyway, it only has 4K since the work was completed. Maybe it is just my imagination, but I would like to know if anybody has experienced anything like this with the A4? We have no extended warranty, and Im hoping that if there is really something wrong with this, the Dealer will stand by the warranty provided to the original owner.

Normal, around town driving seems okay. I only feel this at load.

How many miles are on the trans? I feel your pain. I have had a nightmare with my 99 A4 with 43,000 miles on it since I bought it. Thank God I have the extended warranty. What did the dealership do with the previous owner? Rebuild the trans? I hope they did. When you have hydraulics and don't have engaging gears something is wrong inside, and a new (rebuilt by GM) trans should have gone in. Send a PM to Crashed 94. He will give you some good advice as he works on these trannys for a living. Click on my member name and then click on view more posts on my name. You can read some of my tranny problems and the response from other members. Let us know whats up. I'm curious too. Also, do you have major engine modifications. The A4 is the weak link in the C5 vettes when you start doing modifications. Hope you work things out and I wish I could give you some more info

There are 4K miles on the transmission. The previous owner said that they just replaced the tranny, but the paperwork does not indicate that. I think it was fixed rather than replaced. It is local Chevy dealer and the invoice states the warranty.

There are no after market engine mods. This is a stock 98 coupe that just rolled 70450 on the clock, and since we have owned it, I don't think I have hit it hard more than a half a dozen times, and then only from rolling start, never a full stop. Both my wife and I are pretty conservative, with split seconds of insanity.

Thanks for your input....

Keith
