NOTE : I posted this in the middle of a thread about Techron on the General forum, but got no real response. Sorry for the repost, but I really am interested in an answer. I figured that this is the place to get one.
OK guys...help out a newby here. I have read several recent posts on this Techron stuff and it sounds like I should pick up a bottle. I have no practical experience with engines, but I have a basic understanding of what an engine looks like and how it works. I was thinking about this last night. When the Techron clears out all of the build-up...where does it go? Does it find its way into the oil? Disintigrate and blow out with exhaust? Just wondering. How often should you add this stuff? How much is too much.
I expect to put more than 1500 miles a month on my Vette (oh the horror) and often I need to use whatever crappy gas station is along the road. Any other additives to recommend? Thanks in advance.
From: the GOCC are everywhere, even back from "band camp"
Just pour a bottle in every 3000 miles and sleep easy. It just breaks the contaminants and stuff down and gets it out of the system. They have 12 and 16 oz bottles. Use the 16, pour it in, add a full tank of gas and go...

I was also having fuel gauge issues. I poured in a bottle of Techron and my fuel gauge is now working fine. You can also use Chevron gasoline which has Techron in it.
I filled the tank the other day with Chevron 92 and had no fuel gauge issues. Whenver I have filled up with other brands and gone on a road trip the gauge acts up every time. I am going to continue using Chevron fuel.
It's a fuel additive. It will clean the injectors and cylinders as the car runs and burn it in the cumbustion process. The PCV system on these cars is terrible because it sucks the oil vapors from the crankcase up into the intake and burns it in the cylinders leaving a nasty carbon build up on the heads and pistons. If this build up gets bad enough the engine will experience pre-ignition(pinging) and because the pistons are crap cast units, they can break under load with a mis-fire. It's more of an issue with forced induction but it is still a good idea to get an oil catch can to stop most of the oil from entering the enigine to begin with and use Techron to keep it clean. If the carbon is too bad then a top-end cleaner should be used. You'll get more power from a clean engine.
Is it necessary to change the oil after running the Techron through your system? I know people usually recommend changing it after a de-carb.
No! The top end cleaner is poured into the intake thru a vacuum port and will result in excess fluid making it's way into the engine oil. Techron is mixed with the gas and does not effect the engine oil what so ever. Pour it in and forget about it. Stay away from Shell Oil gasoline. They have too much sulphur in the fuel which ruins the gas gauge sending units. I've had good luck with Mobil.
I had the fuel gauge problems on my '04 C5. Went thru the Techron phase, still had gauge problems. Went thru the use of different gas brands, still had the gauge problems. Finally the problem was fixed by changing out the sending units in both tanks. Have been using Chevron ever since, with no more problems. Good luck with yours.
