Question on Zip tie mod
I definitely noticed a difference, the engine breathes much easier now. I even hear a slight whine, like a supercharger, when I hit the throttle.
One problem though it that the air box just hangs there on the radiator cover unattached to the grommets since the lid is now gone. Is it ok as is because it moves around a bit now?

No it won't hurt anything, since the bulk of the weight is now removed..
But I made the same observation you did; what I did was re-install the rubber grommets removed from the lid, onto the frame posts, backwards..
So now the bottom edge of the airbox "sits" on top of the grommet.
That was better, but then I decided to wrap a ty-rap around the grommet, through a couple of small holes I drilled in the filter frame, and cinched them down. At that point the airbox was 100% secured, no issues.
I would take a pic, but I'm going the route of a CAI intake, so no more zip-tie mod for me. Run this for a while, then save up (or buy used like I did) a decent cold air intake.

Watch the intake throat like a hawk. Look for dust past the filter.
That mod can really let a lot of dirt into the engine. You no longer have a spring seal and ty wraps strectch with time heat and vibration.
IMO, the way I did mine anyway, without any doubt at all, had a better seal than I did w/ the stock setup.
I used 4 HQ heavy-duty Ty-Wraps, placed evenly across the filter face.
I had (and still do) have way more concerns about the stock set up "leaking" air around the edges that I ever would with my Ty-Wrap setup.

Dan,
The stock set up has spring steel that continues to place tension across the seal. Nylon has no residual tension and will elongate with heat and vibtation.

I think it would be better to just admit you're an "anti-Zip-Tie bigot".
J/K.. To each his own.

How about a nylon bigot as I know they don't hold tension?

O.k., fair enough!
