Default 03 Z06 Rods

I have 03 Z06 that i bought & the engine was ran with out oil. i pulled the rod caps off & found spun bearings. my question is ,are the connecting rods able to be resized? they dont look like normal rods were the rod cap bolts to the rod itself. the mating surfaces are not machined. thnx

That's the way most newer gm rods are made. They break the rod apart. They are not machined on the halves anymore.

While you have the engine apart, go for a set of forged rods with ARP rod bolts. If you have the extra money I would also get forged pistons.

They are a cracked cap design. There is an oversized bearing avaliable for the stock rods, so you can resize them by overboring them a bit.

For forged rods, there are several out there. But you'd most likely need to rebalance your rotating assembly.

if you have it apart get some upgraded rods with good bolts they do not need to be forged unless you plan to go over 550 fwhp. look in the parts section or post and you will should get a set of rods and new bolts for around $200. If you resize the rods you will need to rebalance anyway. you will have $200 into just resizing the existing rods so why take the chance.

I'm not sure the motor would require a re-balance. Also, new rods from Gm aren't all that expensive. You could either fix the stock rods, or, buy a new GM rod. You can either turn down the crank, or buy a used stock one pretty cheap. All in all it can be done cheap if you know what you are doing.
