It looks like the K&N 33-2522 but the part number doesn't seem right (332555).

This is true. I hope the 33-2555 is a modified 33-2522 that fits the Vararam properly and seals itself. I'm hoping for Shawn to hop back in here and let us know. I'm hoping he'll also let us know whether he can give those of us that recently bought the Vararam from him, a deal on this new K&N 33-2555. As i mentioned in my other post, had he been offering this filter, even as an extra cost option in lieu of the foam filter, I would have jumped on it, as I'm sure many others would have.

Update: I just contacted K&N and asked them about the 33-2555. I wanted to know whether it was a 2522 modified to seal properly with a Vararam. They told me that the 33-2555 is a discontinued filter. It was the filter that fit the Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 (he didn't have the model years). As I mentioned, I hope that Shawn jumps in here. Perhaps he bought out their old stock on these? I may try to see if I can find a filter for a Mitsbishi Lancer 2.0 and see how it fits. Has anyone tried that particular model yet? Interesting find, I thought.

Second update: In searching the K&N website, for a Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 filter, I was able to find that particular engine and application. The filter they are currently selling for the 2.0 is the 33-2105. I haven't seen these filters in person yet, but in the picture, this filter appears to have more substantial edging than does the 2522. I don't know for sure, though. Here's another link:

2002 MITSUBISHI Lancer 2.0L L4 F/I - All Automotive Air Filter 33-2105

Third update (I obviously have some spare time today : I contacted K&N again, and asked for dimensions on the 33-2105, the 33-2522 and the discontinued 33-2555. Here they are:
1) 33-2105 / 8 3/8" x 8 1/4" x 2.0"
2) 33-2522 / 246 mm x 135 mm x 18 mm (converting mm to inches yields the following - 9.7" x 5.3" x .9")
3) 33-2555 / 8 5/8" x 6 1/16" x 1 5/16"
Does any of this make sense to those of you who have tried different filters in the Vararam? I have not yet as my car is still in storage.

The only other filter that might fit that I could find was the 33-2011. It should be a perfect fit and is for a Jaguar. It is more than the 33-2522 however, usually running in the $60 range. I tried several paper versions of the 33-2011 and found that the Jaguar has a metal housing so the paper filter attempts failed. I contacted K&N about the 33-2011 and they told me their filter doesn't have the metal housing. I have never seen anyone post the 33-2555 number before with regards to it fitting the Vararam.

I have also posted this a couple of times and even contacted Patrick. There is a company in CA called S&B Filters who make filters similar to the K&N. They will custom manufacture a filter for any application with no setup charge if 50 or more filters are purchased. If someone were near S&B and could take in the Vararam we could end up with a perfect fitting filter for the unit and all these issues would go away. From what I have read on the Bobistheoilguy forum, the S&B filter is better overall quality than K&N and is held in fairly high regard.

Guys,

It was our mistake on our site. It is the K&N 33-2522.

It was a simple typo on our part. All orders that have been shipped so far have been the correct part number. I just wanted to clarify that.

Sorry about that.

Thanks for the heads up.

C5XTASY,

We are carrying the K&N as a courtesy to those that are requesting them on the forum, however we include our premium filter with the VR-B2s purchased from us our premium filters outflow the K&N filters. The $49.95 price listed on our site is our forum discounted price. They are regularly sold for: $59.95 and up.

Thanks!

Shawn

Shawn,

So do you also sell your premium filter by itself? and if so how much and what exactly is its composition, any pictures? What is your opinion of how the K&N fits?

We really need a supplier for these filters, but they need to fit! If one of you vendors would step up and make this happen (custom made perfect fit paper type filter) we would buy!

I agree. I would buy too. The Vararam is a great comcept, but the filter is lacking for street use in my opinion. S&B filter will do custom filters with a minimum order of 50 and they are much better than the K&N's.

Do you have any idea how this would be handled? Where are they located? I'm willing to try to get this rolling, are you? I'm sure we could get enough orders from our online community. VetteNuts, if your willing to help so am I, lets get this thing moving! Email me directly if you want. warpster@earthlink.net

Count me in with you. Only 47 more needed and I don't think you'll have any problem getting them considering how many people are running that intake system..

S&B is in California. It would be great if a forum member (or vendor) could take an uninstalled Vararam to them so they could correctly fit it. I was hoping maybe Shawn from LAPD would take this on, as I think it would be a great complimentory product to the Vararam intake and solve one of the most complained about features that I have seen on several Corvette forums that I belong to. Everyone complains about the filter not fitting, not filtering, etc. I wonder if one of the other vendors, like Vettesnmore (Mark Dawson), would want to take this on. According to my map program, S&B is 13 miles from Fontana where Vettesnmore is located.

If the price was reasonable, I would be in too.
