Just had the Pass side check valve replaced....intake was removed to do the job. Prior to its replacment...after 10mins or 10miles i think the code would set. Well now after 56miles were put on the car..the code is back but it now says P1416 NG. If i do an advanced lookup it also shows a P1517 NG. I recently updated my scanner software....and it no longer says this code is for air bank 2 like it did before...Gonna reset again and pray it dont come back...but we ususally dont have that kind of luck. What else could it be? Thanks for any help.
There are lots of rubber connections that you should examine. Remove the panel under the front facia (below the head light) and you will see the pump. There are two rubber connections there along with a vacuum line that connects to the motor/pump! You might fine a problem there. After i had mine changed out it came on once and I have NOT seen it again. hopefully that will be your case too.
Did you replace any of the hoses or you just suspect them? Light came back today...after they had replaced a rubber hose going to the check valve. This time after 87miles and it idled for only a few seconds and poped up. This car its a PITA.
Bill So are you saying the pump can be viewed under the car on the drivers side? Im assuming its all of the large hoses. Is this pump not driving off of the pulley system?
Whelp i found the air pump...its electronic i guess. Shows my age...i never seen one not run off the pulley system LOL. I checked the harness connection for tightness and the hoses...all of which were under the drivers side infront of the wheel. All looked OK.
When the car is first started ib elieve the pump cycles 2 times?
Pull off one of the discharges hoses and see if the pump is actually pumping air. If it is the pump is good, the dirverter valve is good and all that leaves are the AIR check valves.
Here is the check valve on the drivers side. The rubber hose id the pump discharge hose for that side. There is a "Y" connection and it delivers air to the other check valve which is "BEHIND" the intake manifold.
You can service the other valve without manifold removal by reaching behind the manifold, removing the fastener that secures the check valve to the manifold, removing this flange on the other side:
