Maybe I misunderstood your very first post on this thread pewter99.
Yes perhaps I did.
BTW it takes two to do the tango. I guess that makes you the other half?
Couldn't resist making it an even 20.
thats you shoulda been here when I made my own debris screen for $15....I got all kinds of crap because I didn't spend $100 I was told how I was wasting my time etc....I looked at it as saving $85....so when I said it was your car and time..I wasn't trying to be an azz....
I'm in the group that believes in changing the oil and filter based on the oil life % indicated on the DIC. I estimate I should get about 8000 miles by the time the oil life % reaches 0. I'm not worried about the oil lasting that long, but I am concerned about the filter doing its job for that many miles. What's your opinions on changing just the oil filter at say 50% oil life remaining? Is this a good idea?
Well, I think that you got your answer on whether CF members thought it was a good idea. However, since you seemed to question or challenge everyone's supplied opinion, I think that you should follow your belief and change the filter between oil changes. Hey, it is your car.
Changing you oil and filter when the DIC reads 0% is appropriate. If you change your filter at 50% it won't hurt a thing, it also won't help anything. Just my opinion no data to back it up. To do what you suggest is not expensive and takes very little time so no big deal but I think to expect any benefit is wishful thinking.

I just gave ya what ya ask for.....an opinion....and we all know about opinions
On a serious note since you started all of this......any chance we could get you to post a follow up on your results of changing just the filter....I would be curious to see if it works the way you are thinking or if the car will still behave as if nothing is different. I am sure I am not the only one who would be interested.
I bet I can change just the filter in 5 minutes. Can you change your oil and filter in 10?
Point being, changing just the filter is a much less tedious task than doing an oil and filter change. And the good thing is, the weak link in the lube system is replaced.
BTW I don't think I've ever seen a vette as a cab. Have you?
Yes, Once I have the car on ramps. I can dump the oil and replace the plug in 5 minutes...anyone could.
What kind of service does your car get that you are worried about the filter clogging, and the oil being otherwise good? There was a time when filters needed changing every 2 thousand miles. That was many generations of oil, filters and engines ago.
The cab comment that you took so literally was merely intended to point out, if it wasn't obvious enough to you, that cost conscious maintanence programs don't change filters without an oil change. If a cab company...oh well - forget it.
All that said, do what you want to do. Don't worry, be happy.
I say it. You're wrong. Changing just the filter, or just the oil, is silly. Change it both and be done with it. Can we go back to posting about floormats now?
Amsoil says their oil filters(Hastings) are good for 12500 miles.
I use them in my daily drivers with Mobil1 and change the oil and filter twice a year in Spring and Fall.

AMSOIL does carry Hastings filters, but the AMSOIL SDF Oil Filter is made by Baldwin for AMSOIL with a special cellulose, synthetic and glass blend media. For applications where AMSOIL SDF filters are not available, AMSOIL carries the Hastings and now Donaldson line of filters.
What you also gave me was an insult by saying I "must drive like an old lady" (which I'm not) on top of implying I was wrong, which you later said you didn't do but in fact did.
On that serious note, I don't believe I owe you anything since you apparently think I'm wrong. Besides, behavior like you exhibited won't get you any favors done.
whatever noob
you ask for opinions you got 'em can't take a joke, argue with everyone.....why not leave now before you need another box of kleenex for all your whining

no he will argue about whether or not driving with the drivers mat upside down wll increase its life by 80%
It is funny how so many people still fall for the old 3000 mile change routine. MSG, I agree with you in that it can't hurt to simply change the filter inbetween your oil change and of course add the difference that was in the filter. It may not help that much but it is sure to pick up some contaminants. As for the OSL, I follow it and sometimes even go past the interval. I have let it run as high as 9-10K. And guess what? I am not burning oil or replacing a qt every 1000miles or roughly the equivalent of 1 qt per every 30gals of gas as was told to me by a friend, who is a mechanic for Chevrolet. In fact as long as you have a good air filter your contaminants into your oil system should be held to a minimal. None of my Vettes have a problem burning oil and with my C5s I am getting close to 30 mpg on the hwy. Some will change at 3000 and some won't, either way as mentioned above, it is your car. Do what you think is best.
This banter is mind boggling. Perhaps one of us should stop changing the oil and filter and see the end results. How many miles can a C5 travel w/o oil change?
