Default Squeaking wheel

I have a 98 coupe that has developed a screech from the fan belt/water pump area of the engine which increases as rpm's rise. I suspect it might be the water pump. Only 46000 miles on the car. Has anyone haad any similar experience or are you aware that the water pump might go bad so soon?

I had a similar problem. It's most likely the Serpentine belt. You should go to Autozone and buy Gatorback belts. You may as well change the A/c belt while you're at it. The whole process should take 10 minutes.

Hope this helps.

If it continues after the belt change, spray some water on the harmonic balancer and see if the squeak disappears.

I have had the same problem periodically, and a new belt always makes it go away. Does anyone have a preferred brand of serpentine belt that makes it go away for good? I just changed mine about 200 miles ago, and it has been gone since then. I assume it will come back in a few thousand miles, though. Any additional suggestions would be helpful.

Goodyear Gatorback Belts available at Autozone.

They seem to be the best.

The new belts did the trick. Thanks.

I had to replace both the Tensioner and Idler pulleys on the Accesory belt to get rid of my squeak.
