Default catch can

Anybody runnin' an oil catch can? If so, what brand do have and do you have a pic installed? I have seen the air compressor filter mod but I want to use a real catch can. Thanks.

I was recently at an open track event at Putnam Park and there were 2-3 corvettes using an AMW catch can. Real simple design and mount. It mounts directly behind the belt tensioner and it will install in about ten minutes. One was newly installed at the track between sessions. The kit runs about $120.00+/-. I believe you can trust this option due to one of the drivers running this option was an SCCA National Champion(multi-champion). I don't think he would put anything on his vette unless it did the job well. I'm purchasing one for my track car, too. Hope this helps you.

See ya

Here's a link for AMW...

If you want to spend more than $80 I guess that's fine. The air compressor filter mod works great for about $20-30.

The AMW is a great catch can. The can in addition to my Metco valve cover breather has greatly curtailed blowby.

I have the air compressor type on mine and it does the job well. Only one odd thing about it. I drive it for a while, and I see about 1/2 inch of oil in the glass. So I clean it out, and the next time I check, there's a 1/2 inch worth in the glass again. Can't figure out why it NEVER goes above 1/2 inch in the glass. why does it stop at 1/2 inch??

Anyway, it definitely works and that 1/2 inch of oil never made it to my intake. Yes !!!!!

I have had the AMW catch can for about two years now. It works great.

Accurate Machine Works is one of our venders that builds our artificial lift equipment. They do a great job.

There is no question that you can get by a lot cheaper that $88. But, they put a lot of effort into the cans. They even CNC the fittings that come with it.

Take Care,

AMW makes one of the highest quality pieces on the market. The design is unique. It has metal filter material which helps condence the oil vapors. Very smart design element.
Heres a pic.
The can is anodized Red in the picture, on the front of the passenger side head.

Because if oil is above 1/2" it splashes on the separator and gets sucked into the intake. Try filling it to an inch and driving it, when you stop and check it'll be 1/2".

Does anyone know what changes GM made to the 04's in this area? When I put on the compressor filter I swabbed the hose and had NO oil. Now after two or so weeks of driving there is still NO oil in the filter! What did they change?

New type PCV Valve, has very small hole and is hollow, this restricts the amount of air entering the intake from the crankcase. On my 2002 I prefer to limit the air on the throttle body hose going to the passenger valve cover, this way there is more vacuum in the crankcase which seats the rings better, but I still have a AMW catch can to catch a fraction of the oil I used to get.

Pretty sharp thinking. Makes sense. What if I removed the filter element inside, would the vapors condense within the glass housing - or would it defeat the whole purpose?

If 1/2 inch is all it can handle, then i guess I either keep after it better or get a better catch can.

The LS1 has a notorious issue of sucking oil through the PCV and back into the intake manifold. The oil can build up on the inside of the manifold and get into the cylinders and burn causing carbon build up on the pistons and the combustion chambers on the heads. This can knock down your power a hair and also help cause detonation.

I'm thinking of adding one to my car...

AMW is definitely the way to go. If anyone on the forum would like to personally contact the maker for Q/A session let me know. He is a good friend of mine from my hometown. Top-notch guy that designed this can for guys like us. I personally recommend the red anodized can it looks great under the hood. Make sure you go ahead and get the bracket; it makes the installation look very professionally.

Personally I put the can on because I was seeing a slight oil consumption problem on my 99. Well I found the problem pretty quick, you wouldn’t believe how much oil this thing caught on one 1,000 mile round trip!
