What are some of you gains from headers. Please no "Lg is the best" Or "Supermaxx are far better" Just good ole fashon numbers. Peak and under the curve if you have them.

Thanks

Years ago I installed a set of TPIS headers on a stock engine. I really didnt see any big gains.

From the threads I've been following... it seems that the stock manifolds do a reasonable good job for stock applications. Some people have come forward to report 0 to 30 hp. Some of the claimed gains may be from some tuning that takes place after the header install. Some of the hp gains noted may simply be changes in the dyno calculations and weather.

If you do head-cam... you will definately see better numbers with a hi-flow exhaust.

When I installed my QTP's, there was a definite seat of the pants increase in power. Also, I could break the tires loose rolling from about 10 mph which the car never did before I installed the headers. Dyno runs showed 25 HP peak gain, and good gains throughout the RPM range. My tune is very conservative, with the AFR at 6,000 RPM at 12:1. If you check the AFR on many of the tuner curves that show big numbers, they are usually up at 13:1 or even 13.5:1. When we had the car on the dyno, as he was going the tuning, I had bigger numbers with the higher AFR ratios. But I also wanted a safe street tune and my tuner doesn't develop dyno queens with big numbers because he doesn't want to be responsible if the car detonates later, so we kept it very safe. So as he brought the AFR down to 12:1 I watched some of the HP go away with each dyno run. I think my gains were very real gains and the car is completely different in how it responds. Even friends who have ridden in the car notice the gains. When you see gains of 40HP etc. then I would be a little leary. I think 25 HP is a reasonable goal for headers.

One other note, many with 04's have found that installation of the QTP's don't require a tune, and they have been consistantly picking up 25-30 HP peak. Not sure why the 04's are like this, but it must have to do with the stock tuning.

Other things to consider are ease of installation, material that the entire system is manufactured from, leaking problems, O2 location issues with wiring, etc. You need to consider the whole encilada in my opinion in making a final decision. Any system is going to set you back over $1,000 which is a lot of money, so make sure you get all the things you are looking for in the system prior to pulling the trigger.

I'd like to see your request as well. I've helped to beat this one to death in a few other threads as well. The only problem with getting the exact "before -- no headers, after -- only added headers with nothing else" is that I'm finding many others will add a dyno tune or something else. Therefore, if I'm reading your question right, it kinda nulls the answer and doesn't really give you the data you are looking for. It's kinda like rock soup.

98 a4 C5 rag top here! Mods: Twin flow air intake, Borla full cat-back, throttle body coolant by-pass.
Dyno baseline w/above mods: 309.86rwhp 318.89rwtq
Added QTP tri-y`s/Random Tech cats & x-pipe.
(retains all 4 oxygen sensors, no tunning nessary!)
After dyno: 333.53rwhp 342.43rwtq
+23.67rwhp +23.54rwtq
The only tuning done was adj fan temp settings, tranny shift points/firmness.
