After my research it came down to the Danoldson Blackwing or the Halltech Stinger.
Which one would you guys choose. I'm fearly new to the corvette world. So your help and advice will helpful.
thanks, JP.
You do get much more for the money with the Halltech Stinger. Consider that when you buy a Blackwing, you get the air filter, nothing more. The Halltech, on the other hand, includes a larger than stock-airbridge and a smooth throttlebody coupler, all for the same price or less than that of the Blackwing.
Both filters are of very good quality. I went a bit further and modified my lower radiator cover to introduce a steady stream of cold air to the Halltech Warhead filter. You can peruse both the Halltech procedures and cold air mod procedures at:

That is an interesting mod. I think I may have to try it this summer with my blackwing. Any input as to how much it actually improves the effectness of the air filter? Did your engine temps drop at all?

Although I have measured intake air temps before the mod (140F at 40 MPH), I have only my sense of touch (and seat-of-the-pants) to gage the difference. Just before the mod I would get home and touch the airbridge and filter frame. They were so hot, I couldn't leave my hand there for more than a few seconds. After the mod, I repeated the procedure to find that my airbridge and filter were cool to the touch, indicating that the air passing through was much cooler than it was before the mod. I hope to borrow the same sensor I used previously (it plugs into the OBDII port and measures quite a few things, including fuel trim, elapsed time, etc).
My car feels stronger, especially during slow-moving, high ambient temperature conditions. I feel that 3-4 hours of effort to do this is well worth it.

Dave: Great post. Please do borrow that sensor and post your results.
Nope, I couldn't. Besides, since I bought a VaraRam, I could care less what other people think about it because here are my results with the VaraRam. And that is plenty a nuff proof for me.

Its enough for me to believe that it has potential too.

And another thread gets hijacked by the Vararam sports.
I would go with the Blackwing. Greater surface area, better filter, and 50,000 to 100,000 miles between filter changes. It may be the only one you'll ever buy.
....not within the last year or so. The Halltech Stinger-R, being a much better value has (according to what I've seen here on the forum) has outsold the Blackwing by a healthy margin.
...another tidbit to ponder....the Stinger Warhead filter has more surface area than the Blackwing filter; both have synthetic filter media, although the Stinger is also available with K&N-style cotton.
The Halltech airbridge that you get is a very nice, effective piece, and the intake makes as good or better power than any non ram air (ala vararam) one. I've had one version or another of Halltech intake for the last few years, and they have always performed well, and Jim Hall stands behind every product personally.

If you are interested in a Halltech Stinger, I have a very good friend on the forum who is selling one brand new in the box.
