Default Possible Clutch problem? Please advise.

Here are the details. Vette has 67k miles. MN6 tranny and no trans fluid has been changed. When I let the clutch go slowly in first gear I hear this whining/whirring sound. I don't know what part of the tranny/clutch it is. There aren't any other sounds in the different gears, just in first gear when engaging. It doesn't matter if the car is warmed up or not, nor does it happen all the time. Problem started about 3 weeks ago. I still have the extended warrenty but I don't know if they would cover a problem like this. And since the sound does happen all the time, I can see it right now.. the dealership takes a looks at it and it doesn't make the sound and when i get it bad it does. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be? Master slave? Clutch? Trans? A simple fluid change?

Now for a bit more information. Like I said this problem started about 3 weeks ago. I was caught up in a nasty snow storm here in the northeast and I was going up a slight hill, momentum still going until the van in front of me decided to stop. Yep I got stuck on the hill and when I tried to start moving again it started to fishtail and bang against the side of the curb. In the process of fish tailing the traction control was going off all crazy. and ya'll know what that means.... the RPM's were surging up and down all crazy.... so I had to feather the clutch all the way up the hill while fishtailing and banging up against the curb (Actually the curb was my saving grace b/c each time I hit it I was moving forward instead of backwards. So here I am clutch halfway depressed, gas pedal half depressed trying to get up this little hill praying that I wouldn't slide down and get into a big accident. Yeah... scary. But now, car problems. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you might have fried your clutch.

Do this to check for slippage and report your results here. Lots of experts on clutches here.

Proceed up a fairly steep hill at about 30 mph, put the car in 4th gear and give about 3/4 throttle. If your rpm runs up fast but you are not really gaining speed your clutch is slipping (and its probably time for a new one.) If its not slipping and you really want to test further, try the same thing in fifth gear and see the results. If it slips then and does not in fourth, you have a little time before you need to replace it.
Be interested to know what you find out.

Maybe I busted the throw out bearing? Anyone know what that noise is like?
