Default transmission question

3 days ago when i started the car with the clutch in the car would start moving just like it does when not engaging the cluth. Then without pushing in on the clutch it would shift into any gear, while using the clutch it would only partially go into first but take off once in it. So my question is has anyone heard of this problem before? After 3 days of the dealership looking at it this is the responce I recieved today "We still don't really know what is causing the problem but we ordered a new transmission that should be in sometime next week". Anyone ever hear of a transmission suddenly breaking after 3400 miles(2600 are from a roadtrip to florida). By breaking i mean just suddenly to, last time i drove it it worked fine, started it this time and that happened. Anything i should worry about the dealership doing while switching the transmission out? Sorry for the long post this just really has me irritated.

Seems like the problem is in the clutch. Why don't you ask them for an explanation. What broke?

I asked them about the clutch and what i recieved as the reply is "We can't be certain that is the only problem, We are still uncertain what is causing it.". So now the car will be sitting in the shop for over a week until the transmission shows up and they decide to look for the problem again.
