I just took possession of a 2000 FRC with 18000 miles. It seems to have
alot more road noise than my previous C5 coupe. What is the reason?
The car has Yokohama tires, not the Goodyear run flats. What is the deal? I love the car, but it does seem a bit noisy, and it gets louder as speeds increase. To me it sounds like the rear end.

Hardtops are known for this. I removed all my rear carpeting and made liberal use of Dyna-Mat. I used the thicker stuff on the horizontal surfaces (3/16"?) and the 1/6" stuff on the vertical surfaces. I also installed a separator panel. This made a very big difference. HTH

I don't think the car has any mechanical problems. It only has 18000 miles on the clock and drives very good. My coupe was not this loud though. I think it must have something to do with the body style and lighter weight. I am ordering the partition very soon.
Thanks for the replies.
I can only say my Z06 (FRC) is loud simply because of lack of sound deadening material. I dont know if the regular FRCs had the lack of sound deadening as the Z06 does but I would expect it got the same treatment for weight savings..
Tom,
Great post. I really appreciate the detailed information. I am ordering the partition, and you are right, my coupe was not near as noisy. The car is in such excellant shape with such low mileage, I did not think anything was wrong. I just wanted to make sure.
Thanks again.
