I have a 2004 convertible 6 speed that I do not take to the track and have no plans to in the future. Just cruise and some fooling around on the street. When the GM warranty expires I plan on a H/C, nothing too radical.
Right now I am ready to pull the trigger on the following:
Blackwing (power adder?)
Dynatech Supremaxx including high flow cats and X pipe (power adder?)
Corsa exhaust (no power adder, looks and sound only?)
I am looking at the Dynatech because I want to continue to use the rear O2's and do not plan to change the computer tuning until I do the head and cam after the GM warranty expires.
Am hoping these 1st mods will wake up the car and be a good starting point for the H/C down the road.
Welcome. And your ideas look good for starts. I'm just starting out too on the mods, and have basically everything you are going to be adding. You are correct on which mods will bring your power vs sound. Good luck. Those are some good first mods, that will only get you in the mood for more. Now, if only my checkbook had more mood...
You might want to consider Stainless Works headers! I got their complete system for my 02 Z06 and I am VERY VERY happy with it! It too has provisions for BOTH front and rear O2 sensors, has plenty of room for the stock spark with shields, excellent workmanship and I get very little in cabin resonance!
The exhaust on the Z is a 1 3/4" primary tube with 3" collectors, 3" mid section with X pipe, Random tech high flow cats and duel outlet Stainless Works exhaust!
Here ars a few pics.
It is not too loud, It has a good rumble at idle, excellent part throttle grawl and rocks at WOT.
Yep, your first mods look good. The dynatechs are a good brand of headers. They are much easier to install than other brands and keep all four 02 sensors. I have them and the increased sound is great, but I wasnt overly impressed with the performance. I gained nothing from the headers alone and only 9rwhp and 17rwtq with a tune. But money was an issue for me. Another ten horsepower wasnt worth 600 bucks to get the LGs. If you have money to spend and are not constrained I would recommend the LGs. Get some O2 simulators and get a tune. If you do a heads/cam later on you can re-tune for a nominal cost. My original tune was 550 bucks and then 100 for each additional tune. The blackwing is a good substitute for the stock airbox, I have one as well. Easy installation, no problems.
