Can you install z06 shocks on a regular C5? I am wondering how much this will improve the ride, etc.
Yes but remember they are valved for non runflat tires. I changed my Z51 shocks our 04 to the new Z06 version and while the handling improved, I feel the Goodyear's a lot more. We'll be switching to Toyo's on Z06 rims soon. If you have stock suspension you should probably change the swaybars at the same time. On my 99 HT I've got Bilstein Sports and Bridgestone's. Car feels like it's on rails. - C.
I've got a 99 coupe that has 60K miles on it and I'm starting to add some mods (vararam, borla, nitrous on the way this weekend)... I'd like to upgrade the suspension also. Mr. C, what sway bar (or bars) did you put on your 99. I'd like to give my car that on rails feel. I'm currently running stock sized Nitto's on Z06 replicas (16s/17s). Also, i see the bilstiens seem to be the best priced, but how much more suspension do you get by going with the koni adjustables?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ruben
Good information... I appreciate the feedback. I am hoping the sway bars and shocks eliminate some of the shock after a bump or hard corner. It seems the car jumps a little in stock form.
I upgraded my whole suspension (shock, swaybars, springs) to Z06. Shocks cost me $80 used off a z06vette.com member. This is the low end of the price range...

I have stock springs, with Z06 swaybars. With this setup, I had Bilstein Sports. There is a high-speed right-hand sweeper at Willow Springs with uneven pavement toward the inner portion of the track (Turn 8 for those in the know). The fast line uses the inner portion. When I changed from the Bilsteins to the '04 Z06 shocks (no other suspension change), I was able to comfortably increase my speed through the inner portion of the sweeper. I attribute this to the faster rebound speed of the '04 Z06 shocks. This is as close as I can get to a real-world test between the two shocks in performance driving. On the street, they are similar, with perhaps a bit more road feel with the Z's. Price should be about the same.

Ruben,
My 99 Hardtop started out with Z51 suspension so I had slightly stiffer springs than FE1. I upgraded to the latest Z06 Swaybars with the Bilstein Sports. Non runflats make a big differnce in handling as well.
Allen,
I agree, the 04 Z06 shocks do have better rebound qualities than the Bilsteins but I don't think they're as firm. - C.
ride quality suffers below 40mph, and actually seems to be better at higher speeds. Handling is tremendously improved with the z06 shocks/sways/springs that I put on my 99 vert.
what can expect w/ 2004 z06 shocks on my 2000 FRC w/ Z51?
thanks
vinnie
That's what I have.
The new Z06 shocks are just "smarter" They recover quicker in transitions and the car feels even more glued down. And yet they didn't seem to add any stiffness to the normal ride.
My 04 Z06 shocks and sway bars will be installed in about 48 hours, then I have a 2 hour ride back home after the install. I'll post a report with feedback after the work is done.
I started off with doing the 04 z06 shocks and swaybars. I noticed an immediate increase in turning 'tightness' and hard bumps were softened out a bit. This seemed to also help a bit with wheel hop when you hit a bump while cornering.
I did however have a lot of minor bounce from not upgrading the stock springs. Having just recently put on the z06 springs, I can say the bumpiness has been reduced by 65% and it is SIGNIFICANTLY harder to swing the rear end out.
This is compared to the non-performance suspension on a 02 coup.
If you are going the Z06 route I HIGHLY recommend you do all 3 at once.
Fred Beans is a great place to buy these from.

That is exactly what I wanted to know! I appreciate everyone's feedback. It sounds like there is good results from the 04 z06 shocks. I think I will go that route.
