Default Buzzing headlight motor

Hi all,

My left headlight door motor is heavely buzzing for appr. 15 sec. when the headlight door is closed. It doesn't seem to stop in time, like a sensor is not telling it should stop turning.

How should I resolve this problem (e.g. replacing the complete headlight door motor or replacing a specific sensor). Since this is all hidden behind the headlight door it is not easy to access. How do I get into the internals of the headlight area ?

thanks all for any help,
Rob Musquetier

This problem is sometimes erroneously blamed on the gear when in actuality it is usually the "actuator" gone bad. About $350 if replaced at the dealer.

In fact, if this is going on the last thing you want spinning and stripping against another gear is a metal one!!!

Having had this happen with no additional damage with the stock nylon (or whatever) part, I'd not swap to the brass gear.

All the best.

The vast majority of times this is caused by only a stripped nylon gear. I got one of my motors replaced under warranty, and now, that side goes up faster than the other, which annoys me a little. Oh, well, at least I know which vette is mine, now.

I wish I had installed the brass gears earlier, instead of getting that motor replace. Then, both of my headlights would go up at the same speed, instead of thunk-thunk.
