Ok,here goes. Trying to tune the98 last nite.At certain times when starting from dead stop then WOT ,it seemed to be missing data on these charts he was watching. I believe it was HP tuner. The charts were the A/F ratio i think. The a/f chart would start w/numbers then miis several lines and then pick it up later. But during that time the car was falling on it's face.So back to his house and this is what we did.
1. took out air filter and shook it out-modded lid, just loose dirt(not K&N).
2. cleaned mass air sensor(screen still in place)
3. ohmed out my NEW NAPA BELDEN wires...94-106 (WTH!!)
the stock ones were around 450ohms
Also noticed a strange gurgling sound coming from the fuel pump when turning the key on.
4.checked fuel press. 58-60
5.fans on at 198,off 188 or so
6.torque mngemt off
He ended up using stock settings FOR NOW until these other issues get resolved. He did not want to put in his tune until there were no false knock issues. He thinks my NEW wires are junk and possibly causing my false knock when his tune is put in place. He would try to richen up the a/f ratio to eliminate it and then would be missing data on the chart.
What do you think is going on??This guy has tuned many, many cars. He DOES NOT want to finish the tune until we have no issues. I thank him for that. He spent 2.5 hrs trying things to help me and only charged me $20!! Can I test my mass air sensor?? Help!!
He wants stock wires back on--
Spark plugs gapped around .044( i think)(i have ngk's)
possibly new mass air sensor(because of missing data or false knock from the wires)
You mean at wide open throttle the O2's drop to zero? Or there is a logging problem shown by the frame clock on the bottom of the screen. At wide open throttle the O2's are ignored and the commanded fuel rates are used. All of the basics sound fine. Use the same wires, check the plugs for fouling. Gap the plugs a little more, about 0.048 or so. The stubling will either be a timing or a fuel setting problem. Good luck and be patient.
From what i understand it seemed to be a error in logging at certain times. The 02 sensors were a little slow to react, but then came on just fine after a few seconds. What is the opinion on the ohm readings from the NEW wires??
Matt
Look in engine compartment on drivers side there is a sticker. The recommended gap is .50. There has been a number of threads about the gap on plugs, so research is available for your tuner.
