Default reverse issues

Over the winter months I installed a new clutch, scattershield, 4.10 gears, DTE brace and tunnel brace. Now that everything is back together, I have one problem: No reverse. A contributor to the problem is that I didn't mark where the tranny shift rod met with the mounting boss/shift control assembly. I have all forward gears but no reverse. Does anyone know of a timesaving trick to correct the faulty adjustment that I have caused?

BTW-- I am using a Ripper shifter.

Thanks

Have you tried the alignment pin? This is an alignment pin on the base of the shifter where you loosen the torix head screws, push the pin in the shift rod, tighten and remove pin. I have a picture somewhere, just can not find right now.

Below came from a forum member, the picture did not copy however.

I had a problem getting the MN6 into reverse. Tried double clutching and going forward first but sometimes even when it went into R it would pop out.

This is my version but it is in the GM shop manual as well:

I installed a Ripper and questioned the pin that hangs off the bracket on the front of the stock shifter but it was not mentioned in the Ripper install instructions so I put it in the Ripper box with the stock shifter in the attic with other stock takeoffs. Loved the Ripper but reverse might have been a bit worse. Read a post which I can no longer find on this alignment procedure so I took the console apart again and did the procedure and like a miracle I have never had the slightest problem since. Reverse like a real car! I think it was C4C5 Specialist who suggested it. You will have to remove the console and engage the pin found stored on the front of the shifter mechinsm into the shifter rod and down into the rod that runs back to the trans. If before you do this, you remove the pin and the holes are not perfectly aligned you have the problem. The shifter should be in its "natural" 4 gear centered position when checking. With the pin in, loosen the four torx bolts. I think there are three that are on the casting (one shown in picture) and one that clamps the rod to the trans. You do not have to remove the shifter which is removed in the picture. With these loose the shifter can self align. Tighten the bolts, remove the pin and try shifting. If all is good reinsert the pin loosen the bolts one at a time, torque and locktite. Once all is tight pull the pin try it out. I would drive it before putting the console back together. If you want to try this procedure I will scan my Ripper instructions which show you how to get console apart. There are a few tricks. If you ever wanted a Ripper do it now and save an hour or so. Let me know if I can help.

thanks djenger, I'll take a second look. The manual, IMHO, has less than adequate pictorials for the process.
