Default Do these repair costs seem HIGH?

Here are the estimates I received from a local Vette specialist.

oil change & filter $73.00

battery replacement, with 6 year AC Delco $145.00

replace air dams & deflector $205.00

replace transmission fluids (on 29,000 mile car?) $215.00

new brake pads, fluid and bleeding $750.00

replace cracked upper radiator support? $145.00

not to mention they appear to be charging me $188 for the inspection/diagnosis.

Thoughts? Advice?

Sounds about right for an oil change.

Better not be just pads alone......at that price it should include some nice and pretty drilled/slotted rotors....

That stuff better be gold plated!! If you pay any of those prices, you're getting fleeced royally!! Ex. I bought the air dams and deflector from Fichtner Chev for about $50! I took me 25 min. to install. Sounds like another greedy GM service dealer.

In my opinion, $73 is way to much. But then again I do my own.

The first sound OK, the rest are bogus.

7 quarts of Mobil 1 at mechanic retail alone = $42 plus the filter = $48 plus the labor = $72.

It's OK.

The rest is junk.

Ummm, yea that is too much. You could do all of that yourself. The longest one would take about 30 min.

Not counting the brakes, those would take about an hour to hour and half.

But then, you'd have to be the "local Vette specialist," which the original poster said he got the quote from.

A "specialist" in my neck of the woods get about $50 per half hour these days, so $50 + $49 (seven quarts of oil) = $99 x 1.0825 (tax), etc., etc.

I'd say at $73 (with a filter on top of that), he's getting a real bargain.

I really don't think $23 labor to change and dispose the oil is unreaonable.

It is the other items that truly concern me. For example, they have 1.2 hours to replace the air dams, .6 hours to replace the battery and clean the terminals, 5.6 hours to do the brakes, .8 hours to replace the upper radiator support, and 1.5 hours to replace the transmission fluid.

The price for the brake job does not include new rotors, but does appear to provide for "turning" the rotors. And the brake pads are listed at 123.30 for front and 97.72 for rear, the 6 year battery is priced at $89.95, the air dams and reflector are 9.66 and $58.00 respectively, and the fluid filter for the transmission is $49.51.

By the way, is it possible a 29k mile car already needs the transmission fluid flushed?

My point exactly, and I completely forgot about the disposal charge.

The oil change is about right

The battery can be replaced with an 8mm wrench and a 10mm socket in about 5 minutes if you have the replacement battery and the only thing you will have to do is reset the time on your radio.

Here is a link to the front airdams "Ken Fichtner Chevrolet" the air dams are on page 6 and only cost $56.00 in parts and take less than 20 minutes to install.

I had my transmission fluid flushed at the local dealership for $125 and there was no discount involved so your definitely getting ripped on that one.

$750 for pads fluid and bleeding you've got to be kidding me.

Is the cracked piece the plastic covering? because thats only held on with 4 10mm bolts and costs around $50 with a 10 minute installation time.

Take your car someplace else the only thing thats reasonable in their quote is the oil change.

If you feel comfortable paying that much, then go ahead. I don't and can do mine for less than half that price when I do it myself. It's a sad day when a simple oil change costs $73.

Hey SMARTPANTS

Why dont you go to WALLMART and get an oil change

they charge 27$ for 5 quarts of any Syntetic oil + 3.99 per quart after

35 bucks

Do you think GM dealer tech better than wallmart techs?

I would do my Oil chages my self but dont have time, i rather save my time off for HPDEs

Dont use dealer...... I was told by dealer to install corsa exhaust and x pipe 3-4 hours @ 95.00 per. How and why does it take the dealer more than 2x the time to do the same install I had done in less than 1 hour and 45 mins?????? I have been turned off by dealers.....
