Default If you're thinking about getting 4.10's...

Stop thinking about it and GET THEM! It's like a different car now...beastly acceleration, the front end feels like its lifting off the ground! And 1-2 shifts are neck snapping! Best mod yet!

And for those contemplating doing the install themselves...I say go for that too. Dope's write up made the install a breeze! Thanks Dope!

Some pics of the install...

Stock 6 speed has 3.42 gears, right? What about jumping to 3.73 instead of 4.10 - a good compromise?

I wouldn't think there would be enough of a difference between 3:42's and 3:73's to justify the cost. I think 3:90's would be a better compromise.

I'm sure they're great, and I want them, but I can't give up having the ability to stay in 1st gear for most autocrosses.

Sure you can, just bump up the rev limiter! J/K!

I love my 3.90's as well. Best bank for the buck mod out there.

H/C and a 7,000 rpm redline, and you're golden.

BoYD,

What is there to compromise by going to a 4.10? At 80 mph in 6th gear your Coupe or Convertible is only turning 2.150 rpms. I still get over 28 mph in my modified Z06 with them and the MN6 trans.

Try it, it's wonderful!!!!!!!!!

Pumba - from what I understand, you give up some top end power. I may never see 170mph, but I like knowing my car is capable of it

BoYD,

Thanks for the note.

I haven't given up anything. I have had a custom 0.563:1 sixth gear installed in my MN6 trans by Liberty Gears. My top speed is over 185 mph.

Good luck with your decision.

Default 4.10's not best for some

I installed 4.10's and changed to 3.72. If you got alot of torque and hp, first and second gears are totally useless on the street. You need ET Streets for the track and even then 4.10's cause the fifth gear shift problem: An extra shift to a poor pulling gear. Use your hp curve, your rev. limit, and trap speed to calculate the better gear ratio. I, and other forum members, like to finish the quarter at the peak of the hp curve in fourth gear. Most high power C5's (>600 hp) use the stock gear ratio, check the mods of their cars. Nothing wrong with 4.10's if they are a good marriage to your expectations.

Theres NO WAY I could have 4.10's
I was considering 3.90's but thats prolly to much gear as well. What do you think?? I'm over 700RWHP.

Probably want to stay with stock. Check out the profiles of the 9 - 10 sec. setups and you'll see what I mean.

At 700rwhp you should be good with the stock 3.42's...that is alot of power. I'm running an ARE H/C with full bolt ons and the 4.10's were a perfect match.

About the traction...I'm running 305/35/18 nitto r's on the rear so traction is decent in warmer weather. This is at about 410rwhp/385rwtq.

And for those thinking about doing the install...here is the write-up Dope's Install Guide
