On the tinted windows on my truck my installer said to use 4 parts water and 1 part alcohol. For the vette, I have been using Zaino window polish. I thought I would try it when I ordered some other products from them. My windows have never been cleaner and clearer. In fact the side windows looked like their rolled down. I had tried other window cleaning products before and they looked good until the sun hit them just right, and then . I will be using the Zaino until it runs out and then might try the Stoners since Wally World has it.
White vineger a small amount of ammonia mixed with warm water, and wipe with old news papers will take off almost anything on glass.
Just don't use it on the tint side.
Oh and course do it in the shade on cool windows!
I also go over them, after cleaning, with a piece of crumpled, dry newspaper to get rid of any streaks that I might've missed.
im going friggin nuts trying to clean my windows, who has the best glass cleaner and how are you applying it?
thanks, donny
AHH yes, the streaky glass syndrome. I tried everything and nothing works as good as a pail of hot water and a cup of white vinegar. I used to get really frustated after what I thought were clean windows, until I used the water vinegar solution. Really give it a try and you will be amazed with the results. Use a lint free towel or one of those absorbing wrags.
I got the Zaino glass cleaner and don't think it worked that great. It leaves a smeary waxy haze. I used my new microfiber towels this weekend with regular glass cleaner. They made a huge difference. My other trick is after washing the car, to rub Rain X on. Two coats than just wash the windows again with the car wash mitt and dry with a shammy. (Absorber actually) The rain x removes etched water spots and prevents them from reoccurring as water now runs off instead of laying on the windows.
While some of these ideas work well, for a more readily available product and best results I have found using Bon Ami's foaming glass cleaner and #0000 steel wool will do the best, and causing no harm to your surface. If you want to do the insides with tinted windows.. just use a paper towel/microfiber/whatever your favorite material is for the inside. Bon Ami has very good cutting action but contains no ammonia or harmful chemicals. Mixing it with #0000 steel wool produces the best results for me. It gets bug, tar, paint overspray, water spots, etc off very easily. Requires minimal elbow grease too.
The guru reports gave this the #1 spot and I have to agree. Works perfect!
How about on tinted windows? Everything I see out there has ammonia in it and my tint says no ammonia.
Next time you look for glass cleaner, get some of the foamy type stuff that comes in metal spray cans. It won't contain ammonia.
You can usually find a glass cleaner of this type in the same section of a store with the other "normal" liquid squirt bottle glass cleaners (which as you noted, are almost always ammonia-based).
Any sort of plastic cleaner will work as well. Remember with tint, you are cleaning plastic, not glass.
If you have a tint shop nearby, they will also have products specifically for cleaning tinted windows.
