I have a 99 M6 Coupe and I just now heard my fuel pump with 56,000 miles. I turned the turn signal on and it gets louder when its on. Whats going on with it? Or have I been deaf for over a year now? Please help me out on this. Thanks!
Some pumps are noiser than others. The electrical load on the system will change the speed of the pump thus causing it to sound different. If it was quiet for all of these years and just started to get noisey, it could be going bad or it could last another 10 years.
I recommend changing the filter, adding some Chevron Techron and making sure that nothing is sound shorting the tank to the body.
The fuel filter might be bad and the pump having to work harder to pump the fuel? thus causing it to be louder? Ill change my filter this weekend and post it if that was the problem. Thanks for the help man!
The fuel filter is on the inside of the drivers side frame rail on the part of the frame that is above the rear axel. On automatic cars, it is very tight. Manual cars it is a bit easier to get to. It is a good (do it your self) afternoon project.
I would just use a good AC Delco replacement filter.
