Default Header Question

I'd been thinking about cams's lately after hearing some sound clips, and I must say they sound nice. From what I've been reading you really need to get headers first to get the full effect of the cam. When I bring up headers to some of my friends they always say something about them leaking. Was this a problem years ago that has been pretty much eliminated nowadays? I haven't read much on here about people having them leak. Also, are they pretty much trouble free after the install, or do you have to tighten bolts or anything every now and then. I have the Ghl Bullets and x-pipe with a Halltech Stinger, I guess I would get the full effect of the headers with the above wouldn't I? How much louder would they be than what I have now? Anybody have any sound clips with just this w/o the cam. I love the way the Bullets sound now at WOT, but looking for just a little meaner sound at idle and rowing thru the gears. Not that a few extra ponies would hurt anything either. Thanks

I have a complete Stainless Works exhaust system on my 02 Z06 from headers to 3" exhaust! It rocks!!!!!!!!!! I just had the car dyno tuned and it makes 375 RWHP/ 365 FT/LBS Torque. The car sounds wicked and flys! I have NOT had to tighten up my header bolts yet! No probles what so ever!

Until you install headers and a good free flowing exhaust system, other engine mods are LIMITED in effectiveness! An exaust system is your FOUNDATION for future modifications!

I was very hesitant about installing headers. Now I can not see yhy I didnt do it SOONER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!

You do not need long tube headers to do a cam, although obviously they will help.

You shouldn't have any leaking problems.

If you are going to do a cam and headers package I recommend you do them at the same time, to make the tune easier and more accurate.

I put longtubes on mine last year using the stock gaskets and lockwashers on the stock bolts. No leaks at all and just as mantenance free as the stock manifolds as well.

i installed a set of kooks last year. used new factory metal gaskets and torqued to spec. rechecked torque on bolts after a few heat cycles and still tight as a drum and havent needed to think about them since.

generally with good quality headers they should fit and seal tight and you shouldnt have any probs.

**** happens... may get a rare header that is ever-so-slightly warped, gasket may not seal well if you are reusing, bolts may need a retorque... it's possible.

in my case, it's been a perfect experience.

yes, with intake and exhaust you mentioned, you should get full effect with good LT headers.

yes, it will be much louder with your exhaust choice. if you want milder then the Z06 Ti exhaust is the way to go.

sounds clips would be vary and prob not be helpful with different exhausts and whatever spec cam you plan to use from mild to bucking bronco wild unless someone has the exact setup you want.

good luck.
