Default CCWs LEaking AIR HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!

I just recently installed new tires on my CCWs Classics and resealed all 4 wheels.

Today after work one of my front tires was out of AIR!!!

So i take it off and fill it with 45 pounds of air and stuck it into my bath tub and what do you know, air was bubbling out the bolts WTH!!!

I did the sealing of wheels the same on all 4 wheels and only one is leaking????????

Could someone please explain step by step on how to seal a CCW 3 piece wheel please.

Break the outer tire bead away from the rim. Using a razor blade or utility knife, carefully cut the "V" shaped section out of the sealer that's betwen the rim halves. Apply a bead of GE silicone sealer in this area, being sure that the sealer completely spans the "valley" between the rim halves. Let it dry overnight.

As easy as it seems, this job can be tricky and frustrating. I had to do one of my rims twice before I got it to seal.....

I have a much simpler solution:

1. Let the air out of the tire
2. Buy some loctite 290
3. Apply Loctite around the area that is leaking and allow to wick in.
4. Let it cure for a couple of days (if possible, put in the sun or heat it up to around 60-80deg.C for 1hour)

A similar chemistry to the 290 is used by OEMs to seal porosity in the wheels themselves.

I've never seen three-piece wheels leak simply by swapping tires. Did something else happen during the swap? What does CCW say?

All the best.

Thanks for the reply

The only question is

Did i have to apply silicone prior bolting the 2 halfs together?? or did i have to use silicone in between halfs (kind of like gluing them) and then run one around the rim??

thanks man

I did all 4 rims same way, and only one leaks!!!!!

WHOA!!! Did you disassemble the wheels?? After putting them back together, where you able to get them running true?

What I was told, and this is from John Purner himself, is that "scraping" the silicone bead, while mounting a tire, is generally what causes the rims to leak. It happens because the integrity of the seal between the wheel and sealer is damaged.

By cutting the sealer from the "valley", where the rim halves come together, and just reapplying another layer of silicone is usually sufficient to fix the problem. At least, anyway, it's worked for me. I've never taken the wheels completely apart. I currently have two sets of CCW wheels, the older set being about 6-7 years old, and this is all I've ever had to do.
