Default Reprogramming for Halltech STINGER intake?

I was about to order the Halltech Stinger intake and in the remarks it says you need to reprogram 2002-2004. What needs reprogramming? DO i need to invest in a handheld???????

I would think with just this mod all you would have to do is disconnect
the battery and reconnect, the pcm will auto relearn the new air flow.

I was under the impression that after a few days of driving around with it installed...it would relearn on its own...at least that is what I read on a few posts of the guys who went with Vararam and the Blackwing...

my haltech will be here in a few days...so I too would like to know whats up...

I had installed Haltech Stinger on my car (4 month ago) and I didn't reprogram my car at all. Make sure open up your air intake or your car with get hotter (about 5 more deg due to your new intake will suck in hot air from the engine compartment) and also it will run at little rich.

well I'm still looking for a definitive answer here.......I thought it was just an install and let it learn on it's own.....and I am not sure what is meant by "opening up your air intake or your car will get hotter?"..........AND WHY WOULD IT RUN RICH NOW?

Not an expert here, but after installing my Halltech Stinger, I did not ever get a "check engine" light, nor any codes. So in my case I did not have to do anything else with programming the smart box.

Thanks Tim..........I installed a different kind (generic) with 2 K&N filters on my 2000 coupe and I seem to get a lot of engine knock..........I even added octane boost and it still happened. I was wondering if we increase air flow as in the Halltech, but do not increase the fuel..........this will cause a lean condition. So is this the knock I heard? And if we are increasing air, and fuel, are we also killing some MPG? Not that I am a mileage freak but somehow it seems to me.........I lost a little MPG after adding my air intake.and it wasn't just due to wanting to hear the sound of it. So............let's see what else others have to say.

You do not have to reprogram, disconnect the battery or open the air box.

Before I installed my HS I asked the same question of the forum. The answer I received was the car would relearn what needed to be done as far as fuel, and reprogramming wasn't necessary. In my case this was true. I haven't really noticed less MPG either.

Some 2003,4 cars have had a slight leaning condition after installing the Halltech. This caused a code to be thrown out to the DIC and the check engine light will come on. It is more of a PIA than a real problem. Getting the A/F adjusted solves the problem.

Z06s sometimes need to be reprogrammed to get the most out of the intake. LS1 need nothing but frequent tire changes.
